Nuke Your Vacation *and* the Filibuster, Get the

President Trump had a reasonably pointed message for Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) in a Monday morning post on Truth Social: keep in DC and do your dang job. 

With the Senate summer time recess fast approaching – their “state work period” is slated to start August 10 and run through September 11 – and the midterms just a few months away, the president would kindly like Thune and his fellow Republicans to get the SAVE America Act on his desk as shortly as attainable.

“John Thune should not allow the United States Senate to ‘leave town’ until it passes The Save America Act or, far better still, TERMINATES THE FILIBUSTER, where Republicans can then quickly pass everything they ever dreamed of,” the president wrote in his Monday post.

John Thune mustn’t enable the United States  Senate to “leave town” until it passes The Save America Act or, far better still, TERMINATES THE FILIBUSTER, where Republicans can then shortly move every little thing they ever dreamed of, including a full and deep throated SAVE AMERICA ACT, the Budget, and the ever looming Debt Ceiling catastrophe, 1929! The Dumocrats will do it on day one, and can’t consider how fortunate they acquired with this Senate management. Remember, stupidity always brings LOSING & DEATH! President DJT

The president shortly adopted up that post with another, warning that if the Democrats win big in the midterms, they are going to nuke the filibuster and flip the U.S. into a “Third World Nation!”

Whichever Party Terminates the Filibuster FIRST will probably be the Party that survives and thrives. If the Dumocrats win this race, however, America will quickly develop into nothing more than a Third World Nation! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Trump’s warning to Thune comes just days after the president urged his supporters at a Georgia rally to call the majority chief’s workplace and urge him to move the SAVE America Act, saying, “Everybody call John Thune at the Senate. … And tell them to get this stuff approved.”

John Thune Just Stabbed Mike Johnson—and House Republicans—in the Back

The SAVE America Act landed in the Senate last week after the House handed the SAVE America Act as half of the National Defense Authorization Act. As RedState’s Ben Smith reported last week, ahead momentum on the president’s signature Voter ID laws stalled once it arrived in the Senate:

The Senate downside stays. Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said earlier in 2026 that Republicans lacked the votes to defeat a Democratic filibuster of the SAVE America Act. Trump pressed senators to pressure Democrats into a speaking filibuster, but Thune resisted altering Senate process without enough Republican assist.

Two of Thune’s fellow Republicans, Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Rick Scott of Florida, said this past weekend that they’re in favor of the Senate nuking its summer time recess in order to get the SAVE America Act handed, although neither of them has compelled the issue on the Senate ground.

The ball stays in John Thune’s court.
