Popstar on romance with David Bowie: ‘It was deeper | Music News


Lulu has revealed intimate particulars of her affair with David Bowie for the first time – describing it as “deeper than sex”. The Shout performer had a romance with the Starman legend in the Nineteen Seventies after they met at a resort in Sheffield, England.

Recounting her first night time of ardour with the Ziggy Stardust icon, Lulu admitted her reminiscence is considerably fuzzy due to being barely intoxicated. “You know what, I have never said ‘Yes, I had sex with David Bowie’ until now,” she confessed.

“This is the first time I’ve said it because I’ve always chose not to speak about it.” The revelations come as followers have been left baffled by a birthday post Michael Douglas left for spouse Catherine Zeta Jones 

Lulu continued: “It was private. And if I’m 100% honest, which I have decided that’s what I’m going to be, I think I was slightly pissed. I can’t really remember. Only to say that he got me there and we were in his room, and you know, we performed the acts and I don’t have to go into bloody details because I can’t actually remember details, but I wouldn’t share them anyway. I do have boundaries. I’m learning to have boundaries.”

She added: “But the point is, I did and it was an incredible experience to work with a guy like that, to be in his orbit. He honoured me.”

Scottish vocalist Lulu – famend for classics like To Sir With Love and Relight My Fire with Take That – had a temporary relationship with Bowie in the mid 70s, while he was wed to partner Angie. She revealed he was extremely encouraging of her profession and remembered how he supplied priceless steering on what musical path she ought to pursue.

“He was the coolest dude on the block,” she recalled. “He said he’s going to record me. As soon as I walked back to my room that first night, I got into my room in the hotel. Phone rang. It was him. I’d just left him. And it was: ‘We’re going to do this.’ I was like ‘Oh my God, I think he’s serious.'”

She maintains their relationship wasn’t solely about intercourse. “I’m only looking to be loved and to give love,” Lulu expressed. “And I don’t mean I want to have affairs and it’s about sex. It’s about a much deeper thing than that. And that was what we shared. I felt he saw me.”

Lulu is well-known for her 1974 cowl of David Bowie’s 1970 track The Man Who Sold the World. Bowie produced the observe, offered backing vocals and performed the saxophone. Lulu also recorded his songs Dodo and Can You Hear Me, but they have been never launched. Describing Bowie as a “chameleon”, Lulu revealed he wished to change her look, which led to an uncomfortable state of affairs.

She recounted: “We were sitting, just the two of us, and he leaned forward to me… ‘I think you could lose a bit of weight,’ he said. I was crushed. Ultimately, she severed ties with him because he wasn’t helpful for her. Speaking to Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, she revealed: “I would have loved it to have continued, but you know, when I then went to New York to do the next lot of recordings, David was not in a place that I felt comfortable with because he was doing a lot of drugs.

“I was hanging around a lot. But it did not go any additional than that because I made a decision I’m going back to London. I’m not snug. And you suppose, take away your self, politely or not, however you are feeling it’s best to do it. And so that’s what I did with Bowie.

“And of course he thought I was angry with him. I wasn’t, I mean, I was maybe frustrated, but I wasn’t angry with him. I mean, I just loved him and I just loved his talent. But I thought, you can’t just sit around here.”

Bowie handed away in 2016 at the age of 69. Lulu was beforehand married to Bee Gees star Maurice Gibb in 1969 and they divorced 4 years later. She later had one son, Jordan Frieda, with her second husband, superstar hairstylist John Frieda. She later confessed that she struggles to discover a man due to the heartbreak from her past relationships.

Just last week, Lulu admitted that she had been battling her own habit points, confessing that she was an alcoholic. She detailed how she developed a ingesting drawback in her 60s, resorting to wine as she dealt with menopause, the loss of her mother and father, and her youngsters leaving home.
