Sabrina Carpenter let an F-bomb slip during her acceptance speech for the Best Album Award at the VMAs 2025.

Sabrina, who was nominated for the distinction thanks to her 2024 release, Short n’ Sweet, expressed gratitude to her supporters while receiving the accolade. She opened with, “I really don’t take for granted when you guys take the time out of your lives to listen to an album. “If I’m fortunate enough that that is my album, I’m so grateful,” she addressed the viewers in Elmont, New York. “Whether that be Short n’ Sweet, this album, or whether or not that be Man’s Best Friend, my new album, or whether or not or not it’s one of my 29 before that.”

The 26-year-old went on to acknowledge those who appeared alongside her during her Tears performance at the previous evening’s ceremony, stating, “I’m just the luckiest woman in the world, and I do need to say to my unbelievable solid and dancers and my queens on stage with me tonight.” Carpenter’s comments come amid a lip reader claiming Ariana Grande vented frustration during Doja Cat’s VMAs performance.

Nevertheless, she took time to respond to the backlash surrounding her newest release, Man’s Best Friend, which some have criticized for allegedly catering to the male gaze.

Sabrina’s record initially sparked controversy following the debut of its first cover art, which depicted her kneeling while a man gripped her hair. Detractors labeled this imagery “degrading” toward women, with some even claiming it “pushed ladies back” centuries.

Still, Sabrina clarified that despite living in a world that may be “full of criticism,” she remains incredibly thankful for her position as a female performer.

“This world, as we all know, may be so full of criticism and discrimination and negativity. So to get to be a half of one thing so often, more than not, that is one thing that can deliver you mild, make you smile, make you dance, and make you are feeling just like the world is your f—ing oyster, I’m so grateful, so grateful to do that.
