Si King admitted The Hairy Bikers are no more following the death of Dave Myers. Si, 59, and Dave grew to become one of the most beloved British duos, with their friendship cast over their shared ardour for food and motorbikes. They starred in a quantity of cooking reveals, including The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook and The Hairy Dieters, creating more than 30 collection together.

But their partnership got here to a heartbreaking end in 2024, when Dave handed away aged 66 following a battle with cancer. “It’s done. That’s it. The Bikers were plural. There’s no Hairy Bikers without my mate,” Si admitted. Opening up to Radio Times about their unbreakable bond, Si continued: “He doesn’t stop being your best mate just because he’s passed away. That’s never going to go. We were like brothers: we drove each other mad, because we were two very different people, but we absolutely adored each other.”

“So no one’s ever going to take his place. I don’t need to look in the rear-view mirror of my bike and see anybody else there. It’s Dave, you already know? And the same when he was main: I drove a whole bunch of miles trying at his ugly ass. That’s my reminiscence, that’s what I need to keep. That’s what it was about.”

The presenter is trying forward to his new Channel 4 show, Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations with Si King – his first major solo project since Dave’s death.

Si, a passionate railway fanatic, will meet the employees who keep Britain’s railways working easily. The programme will also showcase the nation’s engineering achievements and a rail community that includes more than 2,600 stations. However, he’ll never stop trying back.

“You have to transfer ahead, but the only method you are able to do that is by cherishing the recollections,” he said.

Si’s return to screens follows repeated questions from Hairy Bikers fans, who often tell him they are eager to see his next projects – something he described as “incredibly humbling.”

Dave’s death came two years after he announced his cancer diagnosis. Paying tribute to his best friend, Si penned: “Last night time, on twenty eighth February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s spouse, his household, close pal David and myself by his facet, he handed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved spouse introduced him such happiness as did her youngsters, Iza and Sergiu who Dave cherished like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.”

He concluded the emotional post: “I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
