Toyota recalls 141,000 Prius vehicles over doors…
Toyota is recalling around 141,000 Prius and Prius Prime vehicles after discovering that rear doors can unexpectedly open while the car is transferring, according to a newly filed report from the Department of Transportation.
The recall covers 2023–2026 Toyota Prius fashions, 2023–2024 Prius Prime vehicles and 2025–2026 Prius Plug-In Hybrid fashions offered in the U.S.
The issue stems from an electric rear door lock system that can malfunction if water will get inside a door swap, doubtlessly inflicting a short circuit. Under sure circumstances, the rear door might unlatch if it’s not locked.
If that had been to occur while driving, the door might open, growing the risk of injury to occupants, notably rear-seat passengers, Toyota said. If the swap prompts while the vehicle is in movement, a warning notification might seem on the dashboard and a buzzer might sound to alert the driving force.
It’s not clear how many vehicles might include the faulty half, but Toyota said it confirmed the issue following inside testing and a reported incident abroad.

The company said it’s not conscious of any associated accidents or crashes in the U.S. tied to the defect.
Toyota sellers will modify the left and proper rear door swap circuits to stop the swap from activating, even if it’s shorted. The restore can be carried out free of charge.
Owners of impacted vehicles can be notified in late March, the company said. Otherwise, house owners can go to Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter their vehicle identification quantity (VIN) or license plate data.
