Trump and Putin to meet next week to discuss

President Donald Trump touted that he had a “very productive” cellphone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin forward of his assembly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Taking to Truth Social on Thursday, the president outlined his call with the Russian chief as nicely as the plans to meet with him next week. “I’ve just concluded my phone dialog with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, and it was a very productive one,” wrote Trump.

“We also spent a great deal of time speaking about Trade between Russia and the United States when the War with Ukraine is over,” the post continued. “At the conclusion of the call, we agreed that there will be a meeting of our High Level Advisors next week.”

“The United States initial meetings will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, together with various other people, to be designated,” added the president. “A meeting location is to be determined.

“President Putin and I’ll then meet in an agreed-upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we will carry this ‘inglorious’ War between Russia and Ukraine to an end,” The post concluded. “President Zelensky and I can be assembly tomorrow, in the Oval Office, where we are going to discuss my dialog with President Putin, and a lot more. The second meeting between the two world leaders comes as rumors swirl that President Trump was deciding whether or not to give Ukraine forces Tomahawk missiles that would allow them to attack Russian forces entrenched in the territory.

Should Trump give Zelensky the missiles, it would allow the Ukrainian forces to strike their Russian enemies more forcefully and gain more ground. Trump’s decision to possibly hand over the missiles would mark a shocking U-turn in Trump’s initial refusal to hand over weapons in order to de-escalate the three-and-a-half-year conflict.

The relationship between Trump and Zelensky has warmed significantly since an icy confrontation in the Oval Office last February, in which President Trump and Vice President JD Vance attacked Zelensky for allegedly failing to thank the U.S. for its support of Ukraine.

President Trump’s discussion with Zelensky also marks his abandonment of his strategy to placate Russian President Vladimir Putin into joining them at the negotiation table. In a September Truth Social post, the president proclaimed that Ukraine may win back its territory, saying Russia appeared like a “paper tiger.”

Appearing on Fox News on Sunday, Zelensky revealed that President Trump’s success in negotiating a ceasefire in Gaza gave him hope for a peaceable end to the Russian-Ukrainian battle. Zelensky also added that, ought to the deal be finalized, he would nominate the president for the distinguished Nobel Peace Prize.
