Up to 30 gunshots outside White House as Trump | Political News


The White House was pressured into a lockdown (*30*) after a number of gunshots had been fired close to the neighborhood.

Two people had been shot and stay in essential condition after a gunman and Secret Service personnel exchanged fire, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The Secret Service confirmed on X “shots [were] fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW,” roughly one block from the White House, noting that the suspect never breached the White House perimeter.

A law enforcement official told GWN that the suspect tried to strategy a checkpoint and the opened fire at officers. Between 15 to 30 gunshots had been fired, a law enforcement official told CBS News.

Dozens of journalists took to social media to describe their scary experiences as gunfire erupted.

GWN’s Julia Benbrook reported that roughly 20 to 30 media personnel had been ushered inside by Secret Service brokers following the sounds that echoed close by.

ABC Senior White House Correspondent Selina Wang shared harrowing footage of her ducking for cowl as fire erupted.

“I was in the middle of taping on my iPhone for a social video from the White House North Lawn when we heard the shots,” she wrote on X. “It sounded like dozens of gunshots. We were told to sprint to the press briefing room where we are holding now.”

DC News Now’s Evening Anchor Chris Flanagan posted video footage on X that appeared to seize law enforcement exercise across the North Lawn. He famous, “We’re on lockdown[.] President Trump is at the White House.”

NBC News’ Julie Tsirkin indicated the Secret Service verified that pictures had been fired and directed reporters to take cowl inside the press briefing room.

“Outside the press briefing doors right now… USSS officers, gun drawn, told us to run inside White House now on lockdown,” she posted on X.

The incident follows less than a month after a shooter, recognized as 31-year-old California instructor Cole Allen, fired pictures at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in the nation’s capital.

Authorities are investigating the dinner capturing as another assassination attempt on the president.
