The public is taking bets on who will emerge as the Republican presidential nominee in 2028, and for the past a number of months, it has been a close race between Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

But as of Friday, Vance seems to have surged into the lead, with 43.1% of all bets positioned on him. Rubio, by comparability, boasted about 28% of the bets.

A whopping $14,640,242 whole has been wager on Polymarket on Vance, including both “yes” and “no” votes, while about $9,920,899 has been wager on Rubio (also both “yes” and “no” votes).

Broken down, that means that about $6,309,944.30 has been wager on Vance changing into the nominee (the “yes” votes), while about $2,777,851.72 was wager on Rubio changing into the nominee.

Those numbers, that are current as of 8 a.m. ET on Friday, are drastically different from those of mid-June, when both potential candidates have been neck-and-neck.

On June 7 at about 8 a.m., only about 30% of people wager that Vance can be the GOP nominee, while about 27.5% put money on Rubio.

Rubio’s numbers started to skyrocket around mid-March, while Vance’s plummeted. There may very well be a number of components that contributed to that shift, among them being public sentiment surrounding the Iran conflict that President Donald Trump began on Feb. 28.

Vance cut up with Trump on the conflict for a while and noticed his public standing go down, even as Trump’s went down itself, with even members of his MAGA base turning on him over the hovering prices of dwelling and fuel costs exacerbated by the battle.

Rubio, meanwhile, has been instrumental in a number of negotiations of late, showing just this week at an ASEAN summit in the Philippines.

So far, bets have been positioned on 42 people on Polymarket, though about 20 of them have less than 1% odds of changing into the GOP nominee.

The top 5 contenders are Vance, Rubio, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson and Trump himself — who will not be allowed under the Constitution to run for a third time period.

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., discovered himself in sixth place, while his daughter, Ivanka, is in ninth.

Other distinguished people on the betting listing embody other members of the current Trump administration, top opposition Republicans, including Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.), Erika Kirk, Elon Musk (who was not born in the U.S., changing into a citizen later in life) and even Kim Kardashian.

In whole, about $678,230,567 have been wager on who will develop into the next GOP nominee.
