What Is Iran Building Now in the Zagros Mountains?

The one factor we will always trust about Iran is that we will not trust Iran. Any settlement they make, they will not keep. Any promise they make, they’ll break. Any time they declare they’re telling the fact, they’re mendacity. These are constants.

So, when satellite tv for pc images reveal some new and suspicious construction deep in the rugged Zagros Mountains, it raises some questions.

One of the main American institutes devoted to research on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program sounded the alarm this week over the regime’s uninspected underground website in the Zagros Mountains. Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) haven’t been allowed to go to the secret website, identified as Pickaxe Mountain.

The extremely fortified facility is casting severe doubt on Iran’s willingness to abide by the phrases of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) reached with the Trump administration. The United States, together with Israel, launched Operation Epic Fury on February 28, 2026, concentrating on Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.

Experts from the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) argue that halting work at Pickaxe Mountain and permitting IAEA inspectors access could be a key good-faith measure to check whether or not Iran is ready to abandon its sample of deception.

On the Pickaxe Mountain website:

What does all this imply? Well, once again, bear in thoughts, we will not trust the Iranian regime. In fact, issues in that regard might even be worse than before Operation Epic Fury, as what’s left of Iran’s management is scurrying about like a bunch of hydrophobic rats, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seems to have taken control of what’s left of the army. Desperate males will not be identified for being rational, and if there’s enough nuclear functionality left to resume this work that they keep insisting they’re ceasing, then they could see that as a manner out. 

Here’s the factor, and I’ve been saying and writing this for years: If Iran manages to assemble a nuclear weapon, they’ll use it. They might use it on Tel Aviv, or Haifa, or they could use it on New York – but they will use it.

Unless Iran is prepared to come clean on what’s going on at Pickaxe Mountain, this appears to be like like one more for the goal listing.
