84, Crimson & Cream & The Prayers of…

There are lots of locations you may go to discover the numbers that clarify how Keisha Lance Bottoms grew to become governor-elect of Georgia.

This will not be that story.

This is an unconventional analysis of a historic second.

I would like to speak about some other numbers.

84.

22.

3/3.

January 13.

January 18.

And then I would like to speak about a cemetery in Crawfordville, Georgia. A bit Black woman staring out of a car window. An HBCU on the very best of seven hills. Twenty-two Black ladies who determined more than a century in the past that their sisterhood could be linked to public service. A great-great-grandmother born before emancipation. And generations of prayers supplied by people who never received to see the reply.

Because sometimes historical past wants more than an electoral map to clarify itself.

One coincidence could be dismissed as happenstance.

Two may make you raise an eyebrow.

But when happenstance begins stacking itself on top of happenstance—when the people, the dates, the establishments, the recollections and the locations start touching each other across generations—it might probably start to really feel like one thing else.

A basis.

Foundations create motion.

And sometimes enough motion creates wind.

Maybe you call that alignment.

Maybe you call it ancestry.

Maybe you call it God.

Maybe you call it coincidence and keep studying.

I’m not right here to let you know which one it’s.

I’m merely saying that on November 3, 2026, Georgia elected Keisha Lance Bottoms governor. She will grow to be the first Black girl in American historical past elected to lead a state, as properly as Georgia’s first Black governor and first girl governor.

And when you look at all the pieces surrounding that second, there sure is a lot of wind.
