Olly Rix slams Call The Midwife: The least interesting | UK News


Casualty star Olly Rix has damaged his silence about his ignominious departure from BBC long working period drama Call The Midwife. The 40-year-old performed Matthew Aylward on the show from 2021 until 2024, when his character was unceremoniously dropped from the show with the excuse he was transferring to New York. Olly admits he was deeply sad with how it ended and the show in basic.

“That’s always one that I find quite difficult to talk about, because it wasn’t a happy experience for me. Without wanting to be unprofessional or totally negative it wasn’t an experience that I felt was… I don’t feel I was treated with a lot of integrity or respect at the end of it,” he mentioned. “Obviously, it’s commercially, a very successful show, and nobody can take that away from it. But as an actor and as a performer, it was the least interesting or exciting role I’d ever done. I’m not attached to that role or that work in the way I am to anything else,” he admitted.

Explaining why he has chosen now to communicate out about it the star mentioned: “I just don’t want to continue the narrative going forward that [Call The Midwife] is something we hang every article on.

“And I believe, you understand, [I’m doing] Casualty. [They’re] making an attempt to kind of reinvent the show and embrace the very fact that the show is transferring into a new period with the fortieth anniversary on the playing cards – they’re wanting to that next yr.

“And my coming on board with the show was a big part of that, and something that I’m going to be heavily involved in and I’m excited about that, and also other work outside the show.”

Olly is presently showing in Casualty on BBC One enjoying Clinical Lead Flynn Byron. Although only on screens since March he has been working on the show for a yr now.
