Rare images, including signed snaps of The Doors frontman Jim Morrison taken before the rockstar’s sudden death, have been sold at auction on June 19 for $12,523.
The photograph set was offered by Don Hickman, who took the photos on April 20, 1968, after profitable ‘A Day with The Doors’ contest and spending a wild night time with the rock legends at just fourteen years previous.
Nearly six a long time after that epic and unforgettable night time, the extraordinarily uncommon candid photos he took and the autographs he collected backstage, including one shot of him with the rock legend, went up for auction earlier this month.
Ahead of the release of their third album, {the teenager} received a native radio and tv contest that granted him a VIP ticket to the band’s live performance at the C.N.E. Coliseum in Toronto. Hickman was picked up by a limousine and rode with the band as they went bar-hopping on Yonge Street before the show.
The five-song set was reportedly delayed due to the lead singer’s drunken state.
The Doors have been identified for their hit songs Light My Fire and Break On Through (To the Other Side).
The band’s singer Jim Morrison died in Paris on July 3, 1971, at the age of 27, shortly after fellow rock stars Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones. Artists who handed away at that age have since been identified as members of ‘The 27 Club,’ including Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Jim’s longtime girlfriend Pamela Courson.
In 1993, Jim was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the opposite members of the band. He is taken into account to be among the best rock singers of all time.
