Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll, courageously determined to stay on the course at Bethpage Black Golf Course instead of looking for shelter from the rowdy Ryder Cup spectators.

Throughout Saturday’s four-ball match alongside Shane Lowry, McIlroy endured relentless taunting from the loud New York crowd. The disorderly fan conduct escalated when one spectator apparently hurled a beverage toward the Northern Irishman, but struck his wife instead.

McIlroy was seen comforting Stoll and cleansing one thing from her hat while asking: “Are you OK?”

The pair then moved additional from the spectators, though she stored glancing back with an icy glare at the suspected offender.

A Team Europe source revealed that preparations have been made to escort gamers’ spouses and companions away from the course when tensions mounted. However, Stoll selected to stay, main the insider to comment: “She is a tough cookie.”

Multiple McIlroy teammates shared comparable reward during a post-win media session. “The Americans said in the buildup that they want them to bring the chaos. And they did,” Shane Lowry said.

“But the stuff Erica McIlroy had to listen to for a few days, it was horrible, fair play to her for doing what she did. Being out there supporting her husband and the team, she was probably the big winner in my eyes this week. A strong woman, fair play to her.”

Justin Rose shortly interrupted, stating: “I actually had no idea that Erica had a beer thrown at her yesterday, so fair play to Erica. She didn’t bring that to the team room. We didn’t make that a big deal. That’s news to me. That says a lot about the strength of Erica and everybody on this team.”

Speaking about the incident involving his companion, McIlroy slammed the “unacceptable behavior” of followers while praising Stoll’s resilience and grace. “It should be off-limits, but obviously it wasn’t this week,” McIlroy said. “Erica is fine. She’s a very, very strong woman.

“You know, she dealt with all the things this week with class and poise and dignity like she always has. I really like her and we’re going to have a good time celebrating tonight.”

When discussing future Ryder Cups, McIlroy emphasized that the disgraceful behavior at Bethpage must never be permitted again at the prestigious tournament. “I do not assume we must always ever settle for that in golf,” he said.

“I believe golf needs to be held to a larger commonplace than what was seen on the market this week. Golf has the power to you unite people. Golf teaches you superb life classes. It teaches you etiquette. It teaches you how to play by the foundations. It teaches you how to respect people.

“Sometimes this week we didn’t see that. So no, this should not be what is acceptable in the Ryder Cup. But you know, we will be making sure to say to our fans in Ireland in 2027 that what happened here this week is not acceptable, and for me, it’s – you know, come and support your home team. Come and support your team.”
