Wheel of Fortune fans are rallying behind a contestant who missed out on a $40,000 bonus during Thursday’s episode.
It was Veterans Week on the favored recreation show hosted by Ryan Seacrest as Marine veteran Ron Sheppard from Clarksville, Tennessee, took on the ultimate puzzle during the Bonus Round. Unfortunately, Ron, who was supported by his spouse of 36 years, Dawn, wasn’t in a position to clear up the two-word puzzle.
After making it all the way in which to the finale, viewers attributed the loss to the previous serviceman’s “stutter,” and argued that he ought to have been given the win, which might have introduced his complete winnings to $60,000.
Ron superior to the Bonus Round and was given the selection to choose between three classes: ‘Phrase,’ ‘Thing,’ and ‘Places.’ After choosing ‘Thing,’ he joined Ryan at the wheel to choose his Golden Envelope.
Ron was supplied with the letters R, S, T, L, N, and E for the tough two-word puzzle. The veteran picked M, G, C, and O as his extra letters, which left ‘O_ _ ECT_ _E O_ _ N_ON’ on the board.
The host called for the 10-second timer to start, and as the seconds ticked away, Ron wrestled with the answer.
He initially guessed ‘Olecture Onion,’ before pivoting to ‘Objectionable Opinion,’ which was close, but sadly not the correct reply. After the clock ran out, co-host Vanna White confirmed which letters have been lacking, revealing the answer, which was ‘Objective Opinion,’ just one syllable’s distinction from Ron’s best guess.
“You were in the ballpark,” Ryan reassured Ron after he missed out on including an additional $40,000, which might have made his grand complete earnings a whopping $60,000.

He knew what it was,” while another swore “I heard him say it…” One fan added, “Wait, didn’t he say it at the very end, but he stuttered? I know they can be picky, but it was obvious he solved it lol,” while another person commented, “I got it right away. So did he at the last second, but that somehow didn’t cut it.”
More fans weighed in with feedback like, “I think they should of gave him that. He just had a stutter!” and “He definitely stuttered on the last guess.”
In the end, Ron walked away with $20,000 in earnings despite fumbling the ultimate puzzle.
