PGA Tour issues statement after WM Phoenix Open | Golf News

One of the PGA Tour’s major occasions was put on maintain as darkness fell early in Phoenix.

Several gamers, including Brooks Koepka making his second start back on the PGA Tour, managed to full the spherical. Chris Gotterup emerged at the top of the leaderboard after the first spherical.

“The first round of the WM Phoenix Open was suspended at 6:06 p.m. MT due to darkness. Play is scheduled to resume Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. local time,” the PGA Tour announced on X.

“The second round of the WM Phoenix Open will begin as scheduled, featuring threesomes off split tees from 7:20 a.m. – 1:39 p.m. MT.”

The PGA Tour has confronted criticism from followers as fields have been restricted and not all gamers accomplished the first spherical, with the ultimate tee time being 1:50PM off the tenth tee.

Despite the suspension, many gamers, including Koepka making his second start since becoming a member of LIV Golf in 2022, have been eagerly anticipating the event.

“I’m excited for all of them, I really am,” Koepka said forward of the event. “This one’s great. Cognizant is a home one for me. That’s quite easy.  Yeah, there’s — I mean, I can go Houston. I helped design the course. So there’s — I mean, I could go down the list. We could be here for a while.

“Yeah, it is just good to be back. Good to see some golf programs where I’m acquainted with and type of know where to hit it and have some familiarity with them. I believe that’s a big factor.

“I was just excited to be able to play,” the five-time major winner added. “I really had not thought about it quite like that.

“But yeah if you are going to suppose about it that means, it is good, a place I’m acquainted with, comfy with. Get that out of the best way shortly, and type of reassess by the time I get home the next few weeks of where my sport is at.

“So it will be a good test of knowing where I’m at.”
