Justin Rose shattered quite a few data at the Farmers Insurance Open, changing into the first golfer in 71 years to lead from start to end at Torrey Pines. But somewhat than celebrating his own achievement, the Ryder Cup veteran selected to honor his longtime caddie, Mark ‘Fooch’ Fulcher.

After opening with a beautiful 62 in spherical one, Rose maintained his focus throughout, closing with a two-under 70 to seize the Farmers Insurance Open in a subject that included Brooks Koepka. But during his post-round interview with CBS reporter Amanda Balionis, the 13-time PGA Tour champion immediately turned the highlight to Fulcher.

“First I’d like to dedicate it to Fooch,” Rose said. “2019 he was in the hospital bed when Lordie was strolling up 18 here with me and it was one of the – actually, that week was one of the best weeks I’ve ever played. This week was even more of a clinic from tee to green, I felt, and it was awesome to have him on the bag and share that 18th experience with him here at Torrey Pines so he can finally enjoy that little trophy,” studies the Mirror US.

Fulcher was hospitalized during Rose’s earlier Torrey Pines triumph in 2019. The caddie has labored alongside Rose for more than a decade across two separate intervals, including their 2013 U.S. Open championship. “He’s always looked at it in my trophy cabinet and kinda hated that one,” Rose remarked, referring to the trophy Fulcher missed in 2019. “But, now he’s got one for himself so that’s been amazing.”

Rose finally shattered the Farmers Insurance Open report with 23-under 265, surpassing 15-time major champion Tiger Woods’ 1999 mark by one stroke. “I wanted to play for that, for myself, and also I was aware I’ve grown the lead each day, so wanted to finish seven ahead instead of six,” Rose told CBS while standing on the 18th inexperienced. “I had my own mini-goals coming down the stretch and kept me really focused.”

Joel Dahmen remained in close pursuit of Rose throughout the match, but finally slipped down the leaderboard to end tied for seventh. Rose stays assured about his prospects and has no intention of slowing down.

“23-under, I kinda knew it was a tournament record. It’s been a record-setting week,” Rose told Balionis after the win. “I was just kinda aware of that just for my own personal pride… sorry T-Dub if you’re watching. I was grinding on that.”

Rose acknowledged his distinctive efficiency throughout the week. “I played great, and I managed my game well,” he said. “Even at the beginning of the week when I saw the weather forecast, I was like I want to enjoy this week. No better way to enjoy it than that.”
