Donald Trump took a major hit as his White House Border Czar Tom Homan tried to justify ICE brokers’ actions during a CBS interview.
The 64-year-old appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan on Sunday, February 15, discussing with anchor Ed O’Keefe his place on federal brokers carrying masks. Homan acknowledged his unease with the masks, but insisted ICE brokers must put on them as safety against violent assaults.
Homan also rejected accusations that ICE brokers interact in racial profiling during stops. He told the CBS host, “When they say stop racial profiling, that’s just not occurring. I mean, ICE will detain, briefly detain, and question somebody based on reasonable suspicion. It has nothing to do with racial profiling.”
He continued in his argument, asserting, “As far as the masks, look, you know, I don’t like the masks either.
“But because threats against ICE officers are up over 1500%, precise assaults. And threats are up over 8000%,” studies The Mirror US.

The Department of Homeland Security stated in a January 26 press release that attacks on ICE officers have risen by more than 1300%. However, neither the DHS nor Homan specified a timeframe for this alleged surge, and they neglected to cite sources for the assault and threat statistics.
Homan declared, “These males and ladies have to shield themselves. As far as figuring out themselves, they all have placards figuring out themselves as ICE, ERO, HSI, DEA, FBI. So they all have placards on themselves.
“I’ll let the White House and members of Congress fight that out, but I think some of the asks, I think they’re unreasonable because there is no racial profiling. There is identifying marks.”
Homan added, “The masks right now are for officer’s safety reasons.”

CBS host O’Keefe responded by noting, “There are federal laws, of course, against injuring, harming, threatening federal authorities. So there is that.”
A section from the printed was shared on X, where viewers promptly voiced their disapproval of Homan’s feedback. “Lies lies and more F—–G LIES,” one particular person charged.
Another individual agreed, “Homan is lying. SCOTUS and specifically Brett Kavanaugh has explicitly said they can use characteristics like skin color or accent as a justification to stop and detain someone to determine their citizenship status. #KavanaughStop.”
A 3rd commenter wrote, “@RealTomHoman You are lying,” while another critic argued, “Just so happens that brown skin and an accent is all they look for as “affordable suspicion”. It is racial profiling.”
“Literally the ONL:Y suspicion they have in thousands and thousands of these stops is…race,” a fifth CBS viewer remarked. “They’re stopping drivers knowing nothing about them other than what they look like.”
