Coleen Nolan has confessed to feeling “guilty” for persevering with to love her father despite his historical past of abuse. The 60-year-old tv persona was back on the Loose Women panel with Kaye Adams, Janet Street-Porter, and Lisa Riley on Tuesday, as they mentioned Gisèle Pelicot’s current interview.

During the Seventies, Coleen and her siblings rose to stardom as The Nolans, with their father Tommy, who handed away in 1998, managing their profession. However, it wasn’t until later on in life that Coleen made a heartbreaking discovery.

Discussing the ordeal during her latest look on the ITV lunchtime chat show, she said: “It’s been well-documented, when I got later into my twenties, I found things out about my dad and what had gone on there. I won’t go into specifics, but things had happened. The shock of it, for one thing, and then the way that it affects everyone so differently, it splinters out.

“For me, what was astonishing was discovering out issues that had occurred. As a grown baby, you might have a second as a baby, where you go ‘Oh, so he did not love me then,’ and I hated myself for considering that.”

Coleen revealed that she never experienced any form of abuse from her father, enjoying a “great relationship” with him, but it has only been recently that she felt able to display a photograph of him in her home due to concerns about how it might affect others.

She said: “Nothing occurred to me, and there was never a second with my dad where I felt uncomfortable, where I thought it wasn’t proper. I had a great relationship with my dad. What occurs now is I now really feel guilty if I put footage [up].

“I’ve only recently put a picture up of me and my mum and dad from when I was little because I feel I’m being disloyal to other members.”

When co-star Kaye enquired whether or not she ever “doubted” her father’s abuse, given her own lack of expertise, Coleen acknowledged she never questioned it, though others in the household did.

She said: “I actually did believe it because I knew it wouldn’t be unless it was true, and I’d never call anyone a liar who has been brave enough to come out and who has held that in for years, who waited, in a way, for my dad to pass away before they could come out and say it.

“It’s onerous to say, though, I beloved my dad. He was a great dad as far as I was involved. I had points with him about consuming, but other than that, he was a great dad. We do not actually [discuss] it.

“I’ve just noticed things, there are no posts put up about my dad like there are about my mum on a birthday. There doesn’t seem to be anything about my dad, and therefore I don’t, because I don’t want to disrespect anyone who has been hurt by that.

“But it is onerous because I’m still the infant of the household, and I did not expertise that. I beloved him significantly. I hate what my dad did and I really feel guilty by saying I beloved my dad. I had a great time with my dad. It makes me really feel guilty.

“Am I being disrespectful to the ones who didn’t? It’s such a minefield of emotions and I could really relate to that interview. It’s this whilst splintering. It can take years for you to come back together.”
