Dept of War investigating allegations of | Political News

The Department of War announced on Monday that it had acquired “serious allegations of misconduct” against Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.

In a tweet, the division said a “thorough review of these allegations has been initiated to determine further actions, which may include recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings or administrative measures.

“This matter shall be dealt with in compliance with navy law, guaranteeing due course of and impartiality. Further official feedback shall be restricted, to protect the integrity of the proceedings.”

On Sunday, Kelly, a former naval captain called out President Donald Trump on X. “Your continued threats won’t intimidate me or keep me from doing my job, which incorporates oversight of the chief department,” he wrote.

“Stop the threats of execution, hanging, and sending a mob before somebody will get damage. America deserves better.”

While not confirmed, the investigation possibly concerns a video Kelly made with other members of Congress, urging service members to honor their oath to the Constitution.

Kelly and the other lawmakers, who all have military backgrounds, issued a statement last week telling troops they “can and must refuse unlawful orders,” emphasizing that threats to constitutional order can emerge “from within.”

President Trump called the officers “traitors” who “SHOULD BE IN JAIL RIGHT NOW” in a Truth Social post. He described the video as an act of “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”

Trump also reposted several messages from other Truth Social users, including a disturbing message that demanded the president, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!”

Kelly calls on GOP to reject Trump’s threats

Over the weekend, Kelly called on congressional Republicans to reject Trump’s threats against him. “We’ve heard little or no, principally crickets, from Republicans in the United States Congress about what the president has said about hanging members of Congress,’ he said on Face the Nation on Sunday.

Kelly added that both Trump and Republican lawmakers had requested Democrats to average their language after the deadly taking pictures of Charlie Kirk in September, asking: “What happened to that?”

“His words carry tremendous weight, more so than anybody else in the country, and he should be aware of that, and because of what he says, there is now increased threats against us,” the senator said of Trump’s claims.

House Democratic chief Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic caucus chair Pete Aguilar issued a joint assertion after Trump’s online tantrum, condemning the president, emphasising that “political violence has no place in America.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar called Trump’s posts “harmful” during an interview on Meet the Press on Sunday. “What is harmful is the president of the United States threatening these members of Congress with death. Literally, saying that they need to be executed,” she said.

However, Vice President JD Vance defended Trump, writing, “If the president hasn’t issued unlawful orders, then members of Congress telling the navy to defy the president is by definition unlawful.”
