U.S. President Donald Trump mocked his political rival, Joe Biden, during a speech Tuesday afternoon.
“You ever notice, Biden would always cough before his speech,” Trump told the group, while going on to make odd raspy roaring sounds and shifting his head in circles. “Ladies and gentlemen. And then it would be very short.”
The remark got here about after Trump slammed the “fake news media” for creating backlash to a comment he made about tariffs.
“That was a rough day,” he said, including mockingly, “That’s my favorite word! I got killed, oy yi yi.”
He went on to clarify that he goes off script the bulk of the time, remarking in another dig at Biden, “Isn’t it nice to have a president that can go off teleprompter,” he said as the group cheered.
He then went on to mock and belittled Biden.
“Except one time they had him spruced up pretty good,” Trump said in reference to Biden’s State of the Union deal with. “He was as high as a kite. He was floating way up there. That was a bad speech. But he got through it, if you call that getting through it.”
Trump went on to lambast Biden for allegedly permitting hundreds of undocumented immigrants to flood the nation, while boasting about his tariff insurance policies, which he framed as being helpful to automanufacturing employees.
Michigan is home to a large $348 billion auto industry. Ahead of the speech, Trump toured a Ford car plant in Dearborn, Michigan.
The White House boasted about Trump’s efforts to deal with ongoing struggles confronted by auto industry employees as manufacturing unit jobs have been shipped abroad. His efforts had been framed as supply on Trump’s America First agenda.
Trump’s tour comes a month after the release of an auto industry report that warned now is a “critical time” for Michigan to ramp up efforts to compete globally in the auto industry.
“MichAuto unveiled its State of Automobility report during its State of Industry event, offering the latest insights into Michigan’s role in the global automotive landscape, including an analysis of the industry‘s strengths and weaknesses,” the report reads.
“With Michigan’s signature industry undergoing rapid transformation, from tariffs and shifting fuel economy standards to the accelerated growth of global competitors, the message is clear: Michigan cannot expect to win the future of the industry through legacy alone.”
