In a shocking flip, Fox News host and frequent Donald Trump defender Laura Ingraham questioned the president’s claims about Iran’s army forces on the air.
The 62-year-old conservative pundit expressed concern about the continued battle in Iran during her Tuesday, June 8, night program, in an interview on Fox News with former State Department official Nathan Sales. Laura questioned how Iranian forces had been still ready to strike U.S. targets and belongings if their army was ‘decimated,’ as the president has claimed many occasions.
She spoke with Sales about the US strikes against Iran after an Apache helicopter was taken down by an Iranian drone, which the president later said, “wasn’t a big deal.”
The transfer was deemed a “self-defense operation” that was a “proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” though some of the president’s greatest allies have began to query his claims about having fully worn out Iranian army forces, including Jesse Watters, who said he no longer understood “what that means.”
“We keep hearing their military is destroyed,” Laura said on her show, The Ingraham Angle. “But if their military is destroyed, how are they continuing to hit us? I mean, an Apache helicopter costs about, what, about $46 million?”
She continued to probe the previous official about the injury finished to Iran’s army due to the ongoing strikes and aggression despite repeated claims from the Trump administration that Iran’s forces have been fully decimated.
“One thing that a lot of Americans can’t really wrap their heads around here is we keep hearing that they’ve been destroyed, decimated. The word is often used ungrammatically, but nevertheless…” Laura said.
“Why have we left any military structure there?” the right-wing reporter questioned.
“Again, I’m not an expert here. You are, but we seem to have hit a number of base points tonight and are still, perhaps. We knew where those were. Why did we leave any of them standing? If we wanted to just really get this done, why are they still standing at all?”
The president and many other members of his administration have repeatedly publicly claimed that Iran’s army has been “decimated,” though Trump has been unclear about what that means, delivering blended messages by claiming to have “actually left their military alone” while concurrently claiming to have worn out their total artillery.
In an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker earlier in the week, the 79-year-old president said that the Iranian army had been “totally destroyed,” later including that the nation still had “some” drones and missiles left in their arsenal.
Trump, who promised he wouldn’t enter into any new wars during his run as president, returned fire and launched a number of strikes against the nation’s army as the battle in Iran surpassed the 100-day mark.
