Fox News viewers weren’t amused as Senator Rand Paul defended Trump’s plans for the White House ballroom during an interview.

During the April 29 broadcast of Fox Business on Fox News, Senator Paul, 63, mentioned the invoice he launched in Congress to authorize the completion of Trump‘s ballroom project. At the end of March, a federal decide halted the White House’s efforts to construct a $400 million ballroom in the east wing. The decide cited the need for congressional authorization and violations of preservation statutes.

However, after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner taking pictures on April 26, Trump, 79, argued the case for a safer venue. Since the taking pictures, stories have come out that the Trump administration reportedly supplied a decrease stage of security at the Washington Hilton.

Paul said, “The latest assassination attempt should have us all step back and say, ‘What can we do to protect the president?’ This should be true whether it’s Preisdent Trump or whether it’s a Democratic president.

“They all deserve safety. So I believe, the ballroom will present for a public venue with more security. The invoice I’ve provided to do it without further taxpayer expense. So there are competing options so that the taxpayer does not have to pay for it. But the Trump administration said they’ve raised money for it. So I believe we should always transfer ahead with personal funding.

“Ours would have some checks and balances. There is a White House commission that I sit on. We voted 8 to 1 about a month ago. In addition, my bill would have a further checkpoint to be the chairman of the oversight committee in the House, which is Jamie Comer now, and the chairman of Homeland Security, and the Senate, which is me, which would also have to approve plans.

“We are both on the committee and are in favor of this project. So I believe it’s the means to go. I believe there may be a real urgency to it now,” he concluded.

Viewers took to social media to slam Paul’s comments, arguing the president is already safe when he holds his rallies.

One person fumed, “Get misplaced, Rand!” while another said, “Rand, it is best to start focusing on what your CONSTITUENTS need instead of what the president needs … while you still have a job. Congress is supposed to serve the PEOPLE, not the president.”

A 3rd wrote, “Unless Trump goes to live in the ballroom 24/7, how does building an unneeded ballroom keep the president safer?”

After the taking pictures on April 26, President Trump addressed reporters later at the White House and remarked, “I’ll say, it isn’t a notably secure building,” a reference to the Washington Hilton.

“I did not need to say this,” he added, “but this is why we’ve got all of the attributes of what we’re planning at the White House. It’s truly a bigger room, and it is a lot more secure. It’s drone proof, it is bulletproof glass – we need the ballroom.”

Trump’s messaging also drew backlash online for utilizing the taking pictures to advocate for the White House ballroom project.
