Iranian official warns only economic pain will | Political News
An Iranian official told GWN that the federal government is ready for a long conflict with the U.S. and recommended it’s prepared to carry on with its assaults on Gulf nations with U.S. army bases in an effort to persuade them to persuade President Donald Trump to step back from the U.S.-Israel conflict on Iran.
In an interview with GWN in Tehran, the official ruled out diplomacy for now and said the conflict would only end through economic pain.
“I don’t see any room for diplomacy anymore. Because Donald Trump had been deceiving others and not keeping with his promises, and we experienced this in two times of negotiations – that while we were engaged in negotiation, they struck us,” Kamal Kharazi, overseas coverage adviser to the workplace of the Supreme Leader, told GWN on Monday.
“There’s no room unless the economic pressure would be built up to the extent that other countries would intervene to guarantee (the) termination of aggression of Americans and Israelis against Iran,” Kharazi said.
“This war has been producing a lot of pressure – economic pressure – on others, in terms of inflation, in terms of lack of energy, and so if it will be continued, this pressure will be built up more, and therefore others have no choice (but) to intervene,” he said.
On Feb. 28, the U.S. and Israel launched the conflict on Iran, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini and more than 1,300 civilians, including more than 150 kids at a college in Minab. Since then, Iran has struck nations across the Middle East with U.S. army bases.
On Monday, crude oil costs surged past $100 a barrel as maritime site visitors through the Strait of Hormuz collapsed, disrupting an estimated 20% of the world’s oil provide.
An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson said on Sunday that Iran is utilizing 60% of its firepower to assault US bases and “strategic interests” in the area.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of Ali Khamenei, was appointed as Iran’s next Supreme Leader over the weekend.
Trump had warned repeatedly against electing the son of Khamenei to lead the nation as the US-Israeli battle with Iran intensified.
“I think they made a big mistake,” Trump said on Monday of Khamenei’s appointment. He recommended the new supreme chief could also be focused and killed like his father. “I don’t know if it’s going to last. I think they made a mistake,” the president said.
“The responsibility of the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to lead the defense capability of Iran, and therefore, as Ayatollah Khamenei was doing that, now the new leader would do that,” Kharazi said.
On Trump’s disapproval of Khamenei’s appointment as his father’s successor, Kharazi said, “that is not his business.”
