Jane Fonda and Barbra Streisand feud explained after | Music News

Jane Fonda took a swipe at Barbra Streisand over the late actor Robert Redford, with whom they both starred in a number of movies, after an emotional tribute during the ‘In Memoriam’ phase of the Oscars on March 15.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair Oscars get together, the 88-year-old actress and activist joked about Barbra being chosen to current the tribute over her. Though the feedback had been made in jest, the powerhouse performers have engaged in a lighthearted feud over the years.

Jane quipped, “I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford. She only made one movie with him; I made four!” While Barbra starred reverse Robert in The Way We Were (1973), Jane labored with him in Tall Story (1960), The Chase (1996), Barefoot In The Park (1967), and The Electric Horseman (1979)

She added, “I had more to say. I was always in love with him. The most gorgeous human being, and had such great values. He did a lot for movies – he lifted up independent movies.”

Jane and Barbra’s feud turned public after the 83-year-old claimed to have “made Jane Fonda’s career” in a 2016 interview, in which she identified that Jane landed roles in Klute (1971), Julia (1977), and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969) after she turned them down first.

When requested about the brutal remark on Watch What Happens Live, Jane gave a cheeky response. “Shemischievousay things like that to kind of, you know, give her a little boost,” she said with a mischievous grin. “You have to feel sorry for her. It’s been a tough life. She needs something to boost her up.”

The actresses have both publicly spoken out about having a crush on Robert, though he was fortunately married when they labored with him. “I was always in love with Robert Redford,” Jane said in 2015. “I made three films with him and nothing happened because I was married and he was married.”

Jane went on to say, “I live for sex scenes! He’s a great kisser. It was fun to kiss him in my 20s and then to kiss him again in my almost 80s.”

Robert spoke kindly about Jane, too. He once said, “Jane and I have had a very special relationship going back to The Chase. It just clicks. Whatever her life was – which was all over the place – whatever my life was, when we came together, those things were forgotten. We were just she and I working together.”

Barbra, who referred to Robert as an “intellectual cowboy” in her Oscars tribute, has spoken and written extensively about her chemistry with the Indecent Proposal star both on and off screen.

She revealed that they saved in contact over the years, and that his last phrases to her had been “Babs, I love you dearly… and I always will.” The EGOT winner has not publicly responded to Jane’s shade.

The 98th Academy Awards had been held on Sunday, March 15, and had been broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
