Ronda Rousey: 'It is MVP versus UFC' | MMA News

Former UFC ladies’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey returns to the cage on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. against fellow ladies’s MMA pioneer Gina Carano. Instead of the bout going down in the UFC on Paramount, it is being put on by Most Valuable Promotions and will air on Netflix.

Rousey, 39, last fought in December 2016, dropping to Amanda Nunes via TKO at UFC 207. Carano, 43, hasn’t fought since August 2009 when she misplaced to Cris Cyborg by TKO for the inaugural Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Championship. Despite it being a decade since Rousey fought, and 17 years since Carano stepped foot in the cage, Rousey believes the matchup is the ‘largest ladies’s combat of all time.”

“Everyone’s treating it prefer it’s such a big deal, but we have been doing this behind the scenes for like over a 12 months. It appears so apparent that this was the largest ladies’s combat of all time, perhaps even the largest MMA combat of all time,” Rousey said on Most Valuable Promotion’s YouTube channel. “This is going to be one thing great and one thing that’s never been carried out before in ladies’s fight sports activities.”

“It’s a dream combat and a tremendous combat and all the pieces, but I really feel just like the story and all the pieces behind it is not just this combat, but a lot of it is MVP versus UFC,” Rousey said. “And that’s where I’m going to f*cking go real onerous in the trenches.”

While acknowledging that part of the storyline deals with promotional rivals, Rousey believes Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix putting on events only helps the UFC.

“We’re serving to them because they’re struggling from a lack of competitors. And they can not just make a class motion lawsuit every couple of years as the fee of doing business. And so, I’m actually making an attempt to help Dana [White] out,” Rousey joked.

“If anybody has been groomed to be his apprentice, it has been me. And I feel I’d be the most favourite adversary he is ever had.”
