Scheffler keeps cut streak alive at Genesis | Golf News
Scottie Scheffler narrowly averted lacking the cut at the PGA Tour’s second signature event of the season, the Genesis Invitational.
Scheffler’s spectacular streak of 67 consecutive cuts made on the PGA Tour was under risk at Riviera Country Club. The 29-year-old began Friday tied for last place with Keegan Bradley at 5-over par through 10 holes, finishing his opening spherical after play was suspended due to poor climate and darkness.
Despite being 4 over with 10 holes remaining, Scheffler rallied impressively, carding 4 birdies to close the day with a 3-under 68, securing his weekend spot at even-par 142.
“It was nice to be able to hole a putt and get another two cracks at the course,” Scheffler commented after sinking a 7-foot putt on the 18th gap. “I started the day not where I wanted to, but yeah, battled and it looks like I get another couple rounds to see what I can do.”
Scheffler’s early-season difficulties persist following equally sluggish begins at the Phoenix Open and Pebble Beach. Prior to the Genesis Invitational, the world No. 1 admitted uncertainty about evaluating his efficiency.
“I have no idea. I have no idea,” said Scheffler before the opening spherical. He continued, “You never get to a place where you feel like you’ve got it figured out. I always like practicing and trying to improve and creating new shots I think golf is kind of the endless pursuit of trying to figure something out and I’m never going to get there, but there’s no harm in trying.”
Scheffler’s last missed cut got here on August 14, 2022. “Gosh, I don’t know,” Scheffler responded when requested about how he manages himself on the course.
“I think, like, when I look at other players out here and I play with them, I feel like you can always be learning. You talk about golf being this kind of endless pursuit of trying to figure this game out. I play golf Jordan with a lot at home.
“I can study so a lot just by watching and asking Jordan questions about the way in which he performs photographs, and he does some issues that are — work very well for him that would not work properly for me and then sure methods he approaches issues I like asking questions and attempting to determine issues out. Yeah, I’m not the man that hits the ball the furthest. I is probably not, like, the flashiest participant, but I really feel like my thoughts has always been my biggest device, and I just strive to use that to my benefit.
“When it comes to competing in golf tournaments, I can’t control what the other guy I’m playing with is doing. Like let’s say I’m tied for the lead going into the final round and I shoot 62 and the guy shoots.
“Yeah, I can positively look at a few photographs I’d need to have back, but at the end of the day the event is over and you are taking your hat off, shake palms, say congratulations.
“The great thing about golf is oftentimes we just get to? Show up the next week and start all over and compete again.”
