Squid Game creator teases chance of a spinoff TV Shows
Squid Game’s beloved characters have a “chance” at being seen again after the finale.
Fans have been waiting months for the hit thriller series to return, especially after the “worst ending ever” and a trailer that “confirms” the next deadly game.
Well, the wait is finally over, and Netflix subscribers only need to wait a few more days before they can watch the final season. Until then, the show’s creator Hwang Donghyuk has opened up about the new season, admitting the Front Man is in for a “surprise,” and the “possibility” of a spinoff.
During the season 3 premiere, People asked the director if there was any chance the characters could appear on screen again.
He then admitted, “I cannot just tell right now when and how it’s going to happen, but there is a chance.”
During a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared what a spinoff show could look like.
He said, “One of the ideas I’m tossing around is what happened between season one and two.”
“There’s a threeyear gap,” he explained. “So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years? What was the Recruiter doing?”
Hwang then confessed that nothing is set in stone and “I guess we can be open to anything.”
“When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination,” he added.
The director did confirm that the potential series would not center around the lead character Lee Jungjae, who is played by Seong Gihun.
“If I ever wanted to go back to the world of Squid Game, it would be about different characters with a different story arc,” he mentioned. “For example, the masked guards. How did they end up here? What do they do in their downtime? Something like that, maybe.”

Along with hinting at the possibility of a spinoff, he has also given a glimpse at what’s to come in the third season.
Speaking to Tudum, he revealed, “The new season will focus on what Gihun can and will do after all his efforts fail.”
“He is in utter despair after losing everything and watching all his efforts go in vain.
He then confessed the story will “take an interesting turn,” which will “question whether Gihun can overcome his shame and rise again to prove that values of humanity — like conscience and kindness — can exist in the arena.”
Squid Game season 3 streams June 27 on Netflix.
