Stephen Colbert guest stars on CBS show after | TV Shows

Stephen Colbert made a shock look on the CBS sequence Elsbeth in the premiere episode of Season 3, “Yes, And…” on October 12. He performed a late-night speak show host in a position that mirrors his real-life profession.

‘Elsbeth,’ a police procedural dramedy, is a spinoff of The Good Wife and The Good Fight. Carrie Preston stars as the eponymous Elsbeth Tascioni.

Interestingly, news of Colbert’s guest position got here just weeks after CBS announced the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, bringing an end to his ten-year stint on the community. The last episode is set to air in May. In a chat with Deadline, showrunner Jonathan Tolins shared how the comic’s cameo got here about.

The thought sparked when Wendell Pierce was a guest on The Late Show in February, and Colbert expressed curiosity in taking part in a corpse on a CBS cop show. “I can make that happen. I know a guy who knows a guy. We can get you on,” Wendell promised, and he delivered, experiences the Irish Star.

In the episode, the Emmy winner stars as Scotty Bristol, the host of the late-night speak show Way Late with Scotty Bristol. Andy Richter, identified for his years on Conan O’Brien’s speak show, performs Mickey Muntz, Scotty’s sidekick and partner of this system’s head author and government producer, Laurel Hammond-Muntz, portrayed by the legendary Amy Sedaris.

“The script was penned before the news about The Late Show’s termination hit the headlines. I didn’t modify the script in any way to mirror what had transpired, so any relevance the episode has in that context is purely coincidental. (Some of the lines took on a whole new meaning! )” explained the showrunner.

In July, CBS, a subsidiary of Paramount Global, declared the discontinuation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, stating, “This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Fans conjectured that the sudden cancellation is likely to be linked to the community’s merger with Skydance Media, which necessitated approval from the Federal Communications Committee, and Trump’s $16 million settlement with the community, which Stephen labeled a “big fat bribe.”

Jonathan continued, “Since we would only have Colbert for a limited amount of time, we thought playing with his real persona, and the audience’s usual experience of him, would maximize the impact of his appearance.”

The showrunner additional added, “And, of course, I’m a huge fan of Strangers with Candy, the series Amy and Stephen co-wrote and starred in, and on which Andy also appeared. That connection between the three of them is really palpable in the episode.

The fact that Stephen and Amy have known each other for so long added something special to their scenes together. These people know each other deeply.”

Elsbeth episodes are broadcast weekly on CBS and can be found for streaming the next day on Paramount+. The second episode will air on October 16.
