Toby Harbeck wears a number of hats at the Benjamin School; he is both a golf coach and an English instructor. Among his college students is Charlie Woods, son of PGA Tour icon Tiger Woods — and when it comes to the golf course, even the legendary father has to observe the principles.

Harbeck has intensive expertise teaching the kids of {golfing} royalty, having labored with the sons of Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Tony Jacklin. Currently, he mentors Charlie Woods while Kai Trump, the granddaughter of President Donald Trump, is a component of the college’s girls’s staff.

According to Harbeck, when Charlie is competing under his steering, Tiger understands his place on the sidelines. “Every state championship we’ve been to with Charlie, he’s been there for us,” Harbeck shared with the Daily Mail about Tiger Woods. It comes after Tiger opened up about Charlie’s faculty recruitment.

Harbeck recalled how anxious Tiger was while attending a event during his son’s freshman season.

“I could tell he was a little jittery,” the coach remembered. “He came up to me on the second or third hole [and asked]: ‘Coach, what can I do… I don’t want to break any rules or get us disqualified.”

The sole restriction was that Tiger could not stroll down the middle of the green alongside his son. “We treat Tiger as dad… like all my other nine players’ [parents],” Harbeck explained. “We don’t give him any special privileges.”

Regarding Charlie’s skills, Harbeck notes the teen has inherited his father’s distinctive expertise. “He’s grown up a lot in three years and I think he’s going to be even better next year,” he noticed. “He wants to be perfect. And that doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Charlie is set to return to the Benjamin School next season, where he’ll serve as one of the staff captains. Woods secured his first AJGA victory in May and positioned tied-ninth at the Junior PGA Championship.

“I can tell immediately when he hits the shot… whether it’s good or bad,” Harbeck explained. “I can’t describe it to you. But I can always tell.”

Recently, Harbeck and his squad captured their fifth state championship, marking their second title in three years with Woods as a staff member. According to Harbeck, Tiger has been supportive throughout the journey.

“He’s very kind to my kids and very funny. There’s a wall that goes up and I’m on the other side of that wall, which is great,” Harbeck famous.

“It’s so unfair to compare,” Harbeck remarked about Charlie Woods. “But?’He’s got all the tools… he is a lot more driven than a lot of kids I’ve seen.”
