Trump admits he used disparaging remark about | Political News
Eight years after the fact, President Donald Trump has finally admitted to calling African and Caribbean nations “shitholes,” and he stands by it.
During his first time period, in 2018, Trump spoke in a closed-door assembly about the inflow of immigrants coming in from predominantly African nations at the time. There have been 12 politicians in the assembly, where they mentioned Republican Lindsey Graham’s bipartisan plan to take away the menace of deportation for those 689,800 people who have been illegally introduced to the United States as youngsters and afforded safety under an Obama-era program identified as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, which Trump has since phased out.
Senator Dick Durbin, the only Democrat in the room, reported at the time that the president used heinous language to describe African nations. He quoted Trump saying, “‘Those shitholes send us the people that they don’t want.’” Durbin continued, “He repeated that. He didn’t say that just one time.” Durbin also quoted Trump as saying, “‘We don’t need more Haitians.’”

President Trump has long denied that this has ever occurred. That was until now. While talking at a rally in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania last week, Trump uncovered himself. In what was supposed to be a speech about the economic system, Trump shouted to the captive viewers, “I’ve also announced a permanent pause on Third World migration, including from hellholes like Afghanistan, Haiti, Somalia, and many other countries.”
That’s when somebody in the viewers corrected him, yelling, “Shithole.” To which Trump responded, “I didn’t say shithole, you did.” This was met with a roar of laughter.
He continued, “Remember, I said that to the senators. They came in, the Democrats. They wanted to be bipartisan. So, they came in, and they said this is totally off the record.” He explained, “We wanted to be honest, because our country was going to hell, and we had a meeting, and I said, why is it we only take people from shithole countries,” proper?”
Then he doubled down, asking, “Why can’t we have some people from Norway, Sweden — just a few — let us have a few, from Denmark. Do you mind sending us a few people? Send us some nice people, do you mind? But we always take people from Somalia, places that are a disaster, right? Filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.”
At the time, Trump repeatedly asserted that Senator Durbin’s claims have been false, saying his phrases at the assembly have been “tough,” but “this was not the language used,” and he claimed that he “never said anything derogatory about Haitians.”
Factcheck.org requested a remark from White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson. Despite Trump himself admitting to it live on stage, Jackson responded, “Instead of digging up another Fake News narrative peddled by Democrats almost 10 years ago, the media should focus on the substance of what President Trump correctly pointed out: Aliens who come to our country, complain about how much they hate America, fail to contribute to our economy, and refuse to assimilate into our society should not be here.”
At the same rally last week, when speaking about inflation and the rising price of residing in the United States, Trump claimed, “The word ‘affordability’ is a con job by the Democrats.”
