EdSec. McMahon Tells Accreditor That Columbia U. | Political News

The Department of Education (ED) under President Trump appears to be on one thing of a roll this week

As my colleague Katie Jerkovich wrote on Tuesday, their messaging on social media to mark the start of Pride month (it is uncertain anybody might have missed the plethora of rainbow flags in all places since June 1) was in stark distinction to what we had been bombarded with over the previous 4 years under Joe Biden.

But ED Secretary Linda McMahon and her workforce did not stop there, Jerkovich stated, mentioning that without lacking a beat, the division’s official X account expounded on its renewed mission to shield ladies and ladies in sports activities under Title IX–in mild of 2025 marking the measure’s 53rd anniversary–using the Left’s so known as vacation to ramp up even more actions to gain compliance of the law.

Readers doubtless recall in April when New York’s previously prestigious Columbia University was sued after a number of minority sanition staff employed at the campus claimed members of the pro-Hamas mob held them against their will during a protest there.

Wednesday introduced more dangerous information for Columbia’s plummeting status with a story breaking about an American man who protested on its campus, and is a self-proclaimed and unrepentant antisemite; Tarek Bazrouk was charged with three federal hate crimes, and sits in a NY jail cell awaiting trial.

The Trump administration’s actions to proper the numerous issues that went horribly askew under Pres. Biden proceed apace on Wednesday, as I famous, with Sec. McMahon and her division contacting the accreditor for Columbia to notify them that the college broke civil rights law during the anti-Israel protests and riots there by failing to shield “every student’s rights and safety”:

“After Hamas’ October 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel, Columbia University’s leadership acted with deliberate indifference towards the harassment of Jewish students on its campus,” McMahon wrote in the notication letter addressed to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. “This is not only immoral, but also unlawful.”

She stressed accreditors’ “enormous public responsibility as gatekeepers of federal student aid,” saying that they are tasked with safeguarding “which institutions are eligible for federal student loans and Pell Grants.” The education secretary compared their duties to that of her department, which must “uphold federal antidiscrimination law, university accreditors have an obligation to ensure member institutions abide by their standards.”

McMahon continued with what the ED anticipates in response from the accrediting physique, saying they “look forward to the Commission keeping the Department fully informed of actions taken to ensure Columbia’s compliance with accreditation standards including compliance with federal civil rights laws.”

To date, the Trump administration has withheld $400 million in federal grants and different monies from the Ivy League college over its failures to keep Jewish college students and others protected from radical leftist rioters.
