Norwegian Escape delays New York departure by two days
For cruise ships based in New York City, tough seas prompted by Hurricane Erin aren’t value risking.
Instead of leaving the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Aug. 20 for a 10-day Caribbean cruise, Norwegian Escape will stay within the protection of the harbor through Aug. 22 to wait out Hurricane Erin.
“Due to the impact of Hurricane Erin and the severe weather it’s bringing to the East Coast, we’ve made the difficult decision to change the itinerary for Norwegian Escape’s August 20, 2025, sailing,” the cruise line wrote in an e-mail to passengers, as reported by Cruise Industry News.

Once it’s secure to sail south, Norwegian Escape will cruise a revised itinerary that swaps the Caribbean for The Bahamas before visiting Bermuda as the only port remaining unchanged on the schedule.
Passengers reported on Reddit that Norwegian Cruise Line is offering them with a 20% refund and $200 onboard credit per stateroom as compensation for the inconvenience.
Princess cruise ship stays in port, another stays at sea
Similarly, Princess Cruises delayed a 10-night cruise from New York to the Caribbean and Bermuda aboard Island Princess. Originally scheduled to depart on Aug. 19, Island Princess is staying docked at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal for three nights and will depart on Aug. 22 once climate situations improve.
The delay means that Island Princess will now sail to Bermuda only. The Caribbean portion of the cruise itinerary has been dropped, but passengers will get to take pleasure in an extra day in Bermuda as the cruise line extends the ship’s deliberate in a single day call in King’s Wharf to two nights.
“Instead, after our departure from New York, we will proceed to Bermuda, and we are happy to share that we have arranged an additional day and night for you to enjoy the island,” Island Princess Captain Vincenzo Lubrano wrote in a letter to passengers shared on Instagram by @cruisingcanucks.

Princess Cruises is offering passengers with a 50% future cruise credit due to the inconvenience and also offering complimentary transportation to help them take pleasure in time ashore in New York while the ship is docked. Those who don’t need to stay on board got the option to disembark early and still obtain the future cruise credit.
While Island Princess hunkers down in New York, Enchanted Princess is ready out Hurricane Erin at sea. The ship was scheduled to end its current Caribbean cruise in New York on Aug. 23, but will prolong its crusing until Aug. 25 to keep south of the storm. As a consequence of the ship’s late arrival, the next crusing will likely be delayed and shortened.
