U.S. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum to deliver a security activity pressure to Memphis, a metropolis the president has described as “deeply troubled,” while hinting Chicago and St. Louis will likely be next.

The Trump administration has been slowly sending federal troops to Democratic-led cities to crack down on crime, from Washington, D.C., in August to Los Angeles in June to quell anti-ICE protests. The transfer was backed by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R), though Memphis Mayor Paul Young (D) has said he’s “certainly not happy” about Trump’s plans, which have been beforehand hinted at online.

“Today, at the request of Gov. Bill Lee of Tennessee… I’m signing a Presidential Memorandum to establish the Memphis Safe Task Force — and it’s very important because of the crime that’s going on,” Trump said Monday from the Oval Office.

Trump claimed crime isn’t only occurring in locations such as Memphis, a blue metropolis in a crimson state, warning that he plans on “taking care of all of them… step by step, just like we did in D.C.”

The president said the duty pressure will likely be a “replica” of what he ordered to the nation’s capital.

Memphis Mayor Young, who was not current, has beforehand condemned the administration’s motion, but said he lacks the authority to stop it from taking place.

“I do not support the National Guard; however, they are coming. It’s not the mayor’s call,” Young said. “The mayor doesn’t have the say or the authority to stop them from coming.”

Mayor Young said he intends to collaborate on crime efforts to oversee the administration’s actions in his metropolis.

“So my goal is to make sure that, as they come, that I have an opportunity to work with them to strategize on how they engage in this community,” Young said.

Trump clarified later during the press convention that he plans to steam forward on sending federal troops into Chicago regardless of the fierce opposition from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D), who signed an order in advance to protest against Trump’s threats.

When requested how he’ll ship the National Guard to Chicago without cooperation from state and local leaders, Trump said, “If they do cooperate, that’s good, if not, it’s not gonna matter at all.

“You know who desires to help us? Police division. They have no respect for the governor,” the president claimed. “They have no respect for the mayor. And we discovered that in Washington.”
