Rory McIlroy has revealed his need to captain Europe’s Ryder Cup crew in the future after drawing inspiration from leaders like Luke Donald and Paul McGinley.

The Masters champion insists he is not speeding into a management place and expects to take on the position someday in the “mid-2030s.”

McIlroy delivered a stellar efficiency as Europe triumphed over Team USA 15-13 at Bethpage Black last month, staying composed despite dealing with hostile crowds in New York.

The seasoned Ryder Cup competitor, who has appeared in eight tournaments, contributed 3.5 factors across his 5 matches on Long Island.

McIlroy has always been vocal about his admiration for Donald, who has led Europe to back-to-back Ryder Cup victories and has been urged by his team to return for another stint at Adare Manor.McIlroy is confident that the lessons he’s learned under Donald’s guidance will be crucial when it’s his turn to lead the team.

“I really feel very lucky that I’ve had a entrance row seat taking part in under some of the best captains in historical past in the Ryder Cup,” McIlroy said.

“I feel what Luke Donald has achieved the last two Ryder Cups has revolutionized the captaincy within Europe. And I really feel like Paul McGinley in Gleneagles in 2014, he was a fantastic captain, and I realized a lot from him. And there’s been fantastic captains between them, as effectively. All of them have been fantastic.

“But I think the time and the effort and the dedication that Luke Donald has put into the last four years, it’s been absolutely amazing.
