U.S. snowboarding great Lindsey Vonn says her “Olympic dream is not over” after crashing and injuring her left knee during a downhill race that was meant to be her closing warmup before the start of the Milan Cortina Games next week.
“I crashed today in the Downhill race in Switzerland and injured my left knee,” the 41-year-old former Olympic gold medalist posted Friday on her Instagram Story. “I am discussing the situation with my doctors and team and will continue to undergo further exams.
“This is a very difficult outcome one week before the Olympics… but if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s a comeback.
“My Olympic dream is not over. Thank you all for all of the love and support. I will give more information when I have it. … It’s not over until it’s over.”
Taking half in a World Cup race in Crans Montana, Vonn misplaced control while making an attempt to land a bounce on the higher portion of the course and slid into the protection netting. After receiving medical consideration for about 5 minutes, Vonn slowly skied to the end line, utilizing her poles to assist herself and stopping twice to clutch her left knee.
