A quote from one of Jeffrey Epstein’s lawyers contradicting Donald Trump’s claims that the disgraced financier wasn’t a member of the president’s Mar-a-Lago membership was redacted in the not too long ago launched trove of information associated to Epstein’s intercourse trafficking case, according to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).
Raskin considered unredacted variations of a number of of the information on Monday at the Department of Justice’s new satellite tv for pc workplace, which was set up so that members of Congress might view unique variations of the information — an capability the DOJ announced late last week all members of Congress — but not their staffers — would have forward of key testimony by Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday in entrance of the House Judiciary Committee.
“Hello everybody. I’ve just gotten back from this Department of Justice satellite office, a seemingly otherwise desolate facility where they’ve set up some offices and some computers for us to go and review the Epstein files,” Raskin told reporters exterior the satellite tv for pc workplace on Monday — the day it opened.
He famous that the room had only 4 computer systems in it for over 500 members of Congress to share. It was announced last week that members of the Judiciary Committee could be given precedence to view the information forward of Bondi’s testimony.
He went on to say that he was “able to determine, at least I believe, that there were tons of completely unnecessary redactions in addition to the failure to redact the names of victims” — one thing he said is “troubling” to other members of his get together and even some Republicans, who have been vocal in their calls for accountability with relation to the launched Epstein information.

One such redaction, he said, concerned a quote from Epstein’s lawyers that contradicted earlier claims from Trump about the character and timeline of his relationship with the convicted intercourse offender — whom he claims to have kicked out of Mar-a-Lago in the past.
“I saw one document, which was an email that was sent by Jeffrey Epstein to Ghislaine Maxwell, which was the foreword of an email that he had received from some of his lawyers giving an account of a conversation between Epstein lawyers and Trump lawyers and others about what had taken place during that 2009 period,” Raskin said.
“Epstein’s lawyers synopsized and quoted Trump as saying that Jeffrey Epstein was not a member of his club at Mar-a-Lago, but he was a guest at Mar-a-Lago, and he had never been asked to leave, and that was redacted for some indeterminate, inscrutable reason,” he said.
“I know it seems to be at odds with some things that President Trump has been saying recently about how he had kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club or asked him to leave, and this was at least one report that appears to contradict it.”
Raskin went on to slam the shoddy job he claimed Bondi and her staff did when it got here to redacting the information — highlighting the a number of instances of missed redactions of victims’ names and overredactions in cases just like the quote from Epstein’s lawyers about Trump and Mar-a-Lago.
Bondi beforehand claimed that she and her DOJ employees accomplished the redactions back in July. Raskin highlighted firstly how long after the redactions have been full that it took the DOJ to publish the information, the secondly how uncommon he believes it was that Bondi would declare the redactions have been accomplished in just a month.
“[The] attorney general and the Department of Justice have said that this process was something that was completed by them back in July,” Raskin said. “These materials could have been released long ago, but they’re just being released now.”
“And if every member of Congress who voted for the discharge petition, if all 217 of us spent every waking hour over at the Department of Justice, it would still take us months to get through all of those documents,” he added.
And with only 4 computer systems out there to members of Congress to review the unredacted information, he said it might take members of Congress considerably longer to review the paperwork. He called for “a couple hundred more computers” to be added for all members of Congress to make the most of.
“But the point — so, there are puzzling, inexplicable redactions, and so we need some explanation from the Department of Justice about what their process was and why it seems to have created so many erroneous non-redactions, causing tremendous pain to survivors, and then so many seemingly false redactions that made it as well,” Raskin concluded.
“We’re going to start by posing questions directly to Attorney General Bondi about the process that produced such flawed results and that has created such mystery, but also we want to get a commitment from the Department of Justice to clean it up as quickly as possible and to get them to release the millions of other documents that are still out there.”
