Stephen Colbert believes Donald Trump was partaking in criminal activity during his State of the Union speech.
On Tuesday, February 24, the U.S. president went before a joint session of Congress to ship the 2026 State of the Union handle. During his assertion, he praised his first 12 months back in workplace before laying out the Republican agenda heading into the midterm elections.
Just hours after the broadcast from the Captiol, Stephen Colbert shared his favourite excerpts from the speech during his monologue on The Late Show. He started by highlighting when the president “took a moment to sell drugs.”
The host’s sarcastic remark referenced the president’s remarks on prescription drug gross sales. He said, “I’m also ending the widely inflated cost of prescription drugs like has never happened before. Other presidents tried to do it but they never could. They tried. Most didn’t actually try. But they tried.”
Mocking the president, Colbert said, “I tried to understand what he said. I tried, but I couldn’t. I tried, but actually I didn’t try, but I tried.”
Colbert then commented on Trump’s “refreshing admission,” where he admitted, “I also took prescription drugs.”
“Clearly not enough,” the host jested, inflicting a burst of laughter from the viewers.
Colbert’s relationship with Trump has been inflicting a frenzy currently, particularly since many speculate that the president had one thing to do with the host’s show getting cancelled.
In July, Colbert criticized the president and Paramount for their $16 million settlement on a lawsuit the president filed over the approach a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris was edited in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
Commenting on the issue, the host said, “I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles: it’s ‘big, fat bribe.’”

Just three days later, the community announced it will be cancelling the beloved late night time discuss show and the last episode would air in May 2026. CBS also shared that the franchise will retire with the “irreplaceable” host.
On his Truth Social account, Trump seemingly admitted he was concerned in CBS’ determination but couldn’t take the full blame.
“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night. That is not true!” He wrote.
He concluded, “The purpose he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a 12 months in losses — and it was only going to get WORSE!”
Stephen will log out, just months after making a decade as the host of The Late Show. In September 2015, he took over the coveted spot after David Letterman stepped down.
