U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran to take away mines from the Strait of Hormuz “immediately” after it shut down the key commerce routing, main to skyrocketing fuel costs.

Reports emerged Tuesday, 11 days into the Iran battle, that Iranian forces started laying mines along the Hormuz Strait, where about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil travels, in retaliation for the U.S.-Israeli attack on the nation. As a end result, fuel costs have skyrocketed, placing stress on the White House to rethink its battle strategy. However, the president told The New York Post on Monday that he had “a plan” to tackle the price surge without offering any particulars.

“If Iran has put out any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no reports of them doing so, we want them removed, IMMEDIATELY!”, Trump wrote late Tuesday afternoon on Truth Social.

“If for any reason mines were placed, and they are not removed forthwith, the Military consequences to Iran will be at a level never seen before,” he warned. “If, on the other hand, they remove what may have been placed, it will be a giant step in the right direction!

Furthering his threats, he said, “Additionally, we’re utilizing the same Technology and Missile capabilities deployed against Drug Traffickers to completely get rid of any boat or ship making an attempt to mine the Hormuz Strait. They can be dealt with shortly and violently. BEWARE!”.

Only a few dozen mines have reportedly been laid, though Iranian forces have the capability of laying down hundreds along the waterway in a short window of time, GWN reports.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which controls the country’s Navy, is reportedly laying down a “gauntlet” of dispersed mine-laying craft, explosive-laden boats and shore-based missile batteries in the Hormuz Strait.

The IRGC previously declared that it would attack any ships in the strait after shutting it down once the war began.

More than 1,230 people in Iran, including its longtime leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have been killed in the airstrikes, which have triggered regional warfare as fears surge in the U.S. about a military draft.

Trump said Monday his administration was looking into ways for the U.S. Navy to escort vessels through the strait.

The price of oil tipped over $100 a barrel on Monday, which is the highest level since the summer following Russia‘s invasion of Ukraine, resulting in average national gas prices reaching $3.50 a gallon as of Tuesday.

Amid the gas price crisis, the Trump administration suggested that it would consider loosening sanctions on “some nations” like Russia until the situation in Iran “straightens out,” GWN experiences.

“If Iran does something that stops the stream of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they are going to be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they’ve been hit thus far,” Trump posted earlier on Truth Social.

“Additionally, we are going to take out simply destroyable targets that will make it just about unimaginable for Iran to ever be constructed back, as a Nation, again — Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them — But I hope, and pray, that it doesn’t occur! This is a reward from the United States of America to China, and all of those Nations that closely use the Hormuz Strait. Hopefully, it’s a gesture that can be enormously appreciated.”
