The PGA Tour has prolonged its best needs to Brooks Koepka in a statement after the 35-year-old announced his departure from LIV Golf.

On Monday, representatives for Koepka disclosed that the five-time major champion could be “stepping away” from the Saudi-backed league to dedicate more time to his household. This comes after his spouse, Jena Sims, suffered a miscarriage at 16 weeks in October, and also presents Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy with a golden alternative. 

In a statement launched by LIV Golf, Koepka’s management group said: “Brooks Koepka will be stepping away from LIV Golf. He is deeply grateful to Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Scott O’Neil, and the LIV Golf leadership team, his teammates, and the fans.

“Family has always guided Brooks’s choices, and he feels this is the appropriate second to spend more time at home. Brooks will continue to be a big supporter of LIV Golf and needs the league and its gamers continued success.

“Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans updated on what’s ahead.”

Responding to the stunning news, the PGA Tour acknowledged formally: “Brooks Koepka is a highly accomplished professional, and we wish him and his family continued success. The PGA Tour continues to offer the best professional golfers the most competitive, challenging and lucrative environment in which to pursue greatness.”

In June 2022, Koepka jumped ship from the PGA Tour and signed a four-year deal with LIV Golf that was reportedly value upwards of $100 million. Despite having one yr remaining on the profitable contract, he mutually agreed to sever ties with the breakaway league.

Commenting on Koepka’s exit, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said: “We have amicably and mutually agreed that Brooks Koepka will no longer compete in the LIV Golf League, following the 2025 season.

“Brooks is prioritizing the wants of his household and staying nearer to home. We recognize the numerous affect he has had on the sport and want him continued success, both on and off the course.”

What comes next for Koepka remains unclear, as he’s wrapping up a lackluster year on the LIV Golf circuit where he managed just three top-five finishes while ending up 31st in the individual standings.

Koepka also failed to make the weekend at three of the four majors in 2025, though he did secure a T12 finish in the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

According to ESPN, Koepka informed the PGA Tour of his intentions to depart LIV Golf before officially announcing his decision on Tuesday.

If Koepka decides he wants to rejoin the PGA Tour, the former world No. 1 would likely face a mandatory one-year ban imposed on any player who participates in unauthorized events – including LIV Golf competitions.

The extended ban would be calculated from the date of his last appearance in an unauthorized event, implying that Koepka could return to the PGA Tour during the FedEx Cup Fall series next September.

Given that Koepka didn’t renew his PGA Tour membership before the 2022-23 season, he would need to formally reapply. The circuit would then initiate the reinstatement and disciplinary process, which involves “considerate enter from the board, including participant administrators.”
