David Letterman says hes glad to be out of | TV Shows

Late-night TV icon David Letterman says he thinks he made the precise call in retiring when he did. The 78-year-old former Late Show host appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where Kimmel requested the TV veteran if he missed having the ability to discuss about the state of affairs on his platform.

Letterman retired in 2015, just before Donald Trump announced his presidential marketing campaign. Kimmel requested Letterman, “Do you ever now when you’re at home in your palatial estate watching television, think, ‘Oh man, I wish I was on tonight to talk about something that’s going on?'”

Letterman replied, “Boy, you would think, but no – I’m so glad to be out from under this mess.”

The host went on to reward the current wave of late-night hosts for their political commentary, including successor Stephen Colbert, who took over CBS’ The Late Show from Letterman. Back in July, the channel announced the show would be cancelled after its current run, set to end in May 2026.

“People like you and people like Stephen and people like Seth [Meyers] do such a masterful job of defending this democracy,” Letterman said.

It has been a tumultuous 12 months on the late-night scene. Kimmel himself confronted suspension in September over a collection of contentious feedback about politicians’ reactions to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel was reinstated after a week.

The TV host has since seen his contract with ABC prolonged through to May 2027 and the blip hasn’t stopped Kimmel from poking enjoyable at the president. The TV host made mild of Trump’s intercourse life and fitness routine. America’s Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said “no fatties” have been permitted in the navy during a latest unprecedented assembly with all the generals and admirals.

Jimmy joked about Trump offering fitness advice, suggesting that Trump was “so fat” that he is “breaking escalators,” following an incident where an escalator at the United Nations appeared to stop while he was on it.
