Gunman arrested at US Capitol as police swarm car | Political News


A gun-wielding man was arrested Monday exterior the U.S. Capitol after making an attempt to enter the North Barricade, according to local police.

At least six officers had been noticed swarming around an SUV, two of whom had drawn their weapons at a man who emerged from the motive force’s seat of a vehicle while his arms had been positioned above his head, GWN experiences.

The man was captured by GWN strolling backward and away from his vehicle, prompting law enforcement officers to decrease their weapons before other officers approached and arrested him with his arms behind his back.

No additional particulars about the suspect and potential costs have been launched at press time, as more law enforcement officers continue to arrive at the scene amid the investigation.

The scenario unfolds as Congress returns to Capitol Hill with restricted time to cross a number of legislative priorities, and after the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) at age 71 over the weekend from a “brief and sudden illness,” according to the senator’s workplace.

South Carolina’s Republican Gov. Henry McMaster is scheduled to announce Graham’s alternative later this afternoon around 4 p.m. Monday to perform the rest of the late lawmaker’s time period.

U.S. President Donald Trump advisable via Truth Social that McMaster appoint Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to fulfill the place through January, when his time period was set to expire.

Trump made a number of tributes to Graham, a longtime ally of the president, on social media, describing the notorious warhawk as a “good friend” and “one of the best people” he is “ever known.”

“Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad!,” Trump initially wrote on Truth Social.

He later added, “In honor of the remarkable life and achievements of Senator Lindsey Graham, a dear friend of mine, and a truly great man, who achieved so much for our Country, and his beloved Home State of South Carolina, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Saturday evening at 6 P.M. GOD BLESS YOU LINDSEY!”.

Social media platforms over the weekend and into early this week had been flooding with acknowledgements of his passing, stirring controversy among critics who stand in principled opposition to Graham’s international coverage stances.
