Ryder Cup star cant hide what he really thinks of | Golf News
Shane Lowry could not comprise his laughter and broke into applause as European supporters delivered some basic wit and humor in response to the environment at Bethpage Black.
Considerable consideration has been centered on the potential crowd dynamics in New York, with Justin Thomas even advising spectators precisely where the boundary lies concerning participant heckling. However, it appeared that Lowry was less than impressed by the initial efforts from the American supporters.
Lowry, among eight opponents from both squads benched for the Friday morning foursomes matches, stood alongside gamers from both groups close to the first tee box as each match commenced. His fellow Irishman and close companion Rory McIlroy acquired a harsh three-word greeting when he stepped out to start his match.
Yet when the European supporters countered the comparatively muted environment with chants of “Is this a library?”, Lowry could not resist bursting into laughter and clapping in approval of their message concerning the dearth of noise.
Lowry had addressed the European supporters and their soccer-style chanting earlier in the week, remarking: “Yeah, I thought they were pretty good last night at the Opening Ceremony to be honest. They were pretty loud. I was pretty happy with that.”
“They are good fun. There are some great songs. I think there’s going to be –you know, there’s a lot of Irish people and there’s a lot of European people that live in and around New York, and I’m pretty sure there’s going to be quite a few Europeans here this week, which hopefully they can be as loud as they can.
“Hopefully we may give them one thing to cheer about. That’s the factor. If we play good golf, the American crowd will likely be quiet; the European crowd will likely be loud. So it is up to us to do that.”
Following his debut Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, Lowry criticized certain fan conduct and mistreatment directed at family members.

When questioned whether that remained a worry this week, he responded: “Yeah, look, that was my first Ryder Cup expertise, and clearly my first away one, type of surprising going over there.
“But when you’re ready for something, it’s never as bad. Like I think the New York fans have been great this week so far. Obviously it’s practice days and it’s a little bit more lighthearted. It is what it is. I played — I played an away Ryder Cup and a home Ryder Cup, and I’m pretty sure Rome wasn’t much fun for the Americans, either.
“You know, I feel you have got to be your self, do your own factor, attempt and use it as best you’ll be able to. You know, enable it to help you as opposed to let it hinder you. I feel we’re all prepared for it and we’re all mentally ready for it. We’ll see.”
