A well-recognized face on ITV’s This Morning, Gyles Brandreth was overcome with emotion as he tearfully mentioned his late father, a World War Two veteran. On Friday’s (August 15) episode of the favored ITV daytime show, hosts Emma Willis and Craig Doyle devoted a particular section to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day), marking the end of World War Two.
The poignant section took an emotional flip when Gyles, who often seems on the programme, was moved to tears while discussing his late father. After viewing a touching clip, Gyles, joined on the couch by journalist Rachel Johnson, expressed how stirring it was to witness the King and Queen main a two-minute silence, reviews Wales Online. World War Two successfully got here to an end on August 15, 1945, when Japan surrendered.
Emma started by saying: “To reflect further on this historical day, Gyles Brandreth and Rachel Johnson are back. It’s so emotional when you watch that, it really does make you stop and think.”
Gyles responded: “To see there veterans, who were actually alive, taking part in what was for many people called the forgotten war. The people in Burma thought they were the forgotten army.”
He continued: “To see the King there, whose grandfather spoke at the end of war and said this is Victory over Japan Day, it was the final end.”
Gyles added: “Whenever we talk about the war, I think about my own parents. My father was in the army for six years during the Second World War in intelligence and he rarely talked about it.”
{A photograph} of his father then appeared on the screen and Gyles grew to become overwhelmed with emotion, declaring: “There he is, bless him. Oh that’s rather touching.”
Fighting back tears, he continued: “They’re good people, really good people. Interestingly, they very rarely talked about it. They just got on with it.”
Craig responded: “It’s very poignant. So many people will be feeling like you right now Gyles – sad and very proud.” Those tuning in from home had been deeply moved by the heartfelt scene and shortly took to social media to specific their emotions.
