White House hits back at buffoon Chris Murphy | Political News

The White House has fired back at Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who slammed the president for having fun with “king-like” powers while purposely preserving the federal government shut down.

In response to an electronic mail despatched by The Daily Express U.S., White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson called the Connecticut senator a “buffoon.” She said, “Chris Murphy is a buffoon who regularly lies to the American people.”

“Here’s the truth: President Trump wants the government open and Democrats could vote to reopen it anytime they want,” she added. “But they’ve said they want to use struggling families as leverage for their radical left agenda. It’s sick.”

The comments against the senator follow Murphy’s accusation that President Trump was actively preventing Republicans and Democrats from reaching a consensus over the 26-day government shutdown, claiming it gives the president “king-like powers.” Murphy made the accusation on GWN’s State of the Union on Sunday.

According to Murphy, Trump was using his executive powers to decide which government agencies would be allowed to operate during the shutdown. “I feel one of the explanations that President Trump is refusing to negotiate is because he likes the fact that the federal government is closed, because he thinks he can exercise king-like powers,” said Murphy.

“He can open up the elements of the federal government that he needs,” added Murphy while on the show. “He pays the staff who are loyal to him. … This is a component of what occurs in totalitarian states.”

Since the shutdown earlier this month, Democrats and Republicans have voted 12 times but failed to reach an agreement on a spending resolution. Democrats are adamantly refusing to vote for a bill that does not extend healthcare subsidies.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has repeatedly stated, “There is nothing to negotiate. Republicans have, since the beginning, maintained that issues around subsidies can be argued at a later date.

Other lawmakers have proposed that President Trump, who is currently in Asia, should be more involved in the negotiating process. Prior to the shutdown, President Trump held a meeting with Democratic leadership, but no substantial progress was made.

Sen. Mark Kelly, during an appearance on ABC’s This Week, claimed the president only spent one hour with Democratic leadership. “If we could have a real negotiation about this and with the president, the president has spent one hour on this,” the Arizona senator said.

“How much time has he spent talking about his ballroom?” he added. President Trump’s latest addition to the White House, which is still under construction due to being funded by personal donors, is projected to price more than $300 million.

According to Kelly, “Almost every single American taxpayer will never go in that room.”
