Fox News anchor makes blunder twice while | TV Shows
A Fox News anchor made an embarrassing on-air gaffe, mistakenly referring to the newly appointed Pope by the incorrect name – not once, but twice – during the crucial announcement.
On Thursday, May 8, Fox News anchor John Roberts had a regrettable slip-up live on air while delivering the news of the new Pope, Pope Leo XIV. In conversation with Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester, Roberts stated, “Bishop Barron, question for you about where Louis the 14th I believe – sorry Leo the 14th – Louis is the French guy..”
Despite correcting himself, he later repeated the same error, saying, “For Lou-I mean Leo” further into the discussion. Although he caught his mistake mid-sentence, viewers at home deemed the confusion highly unprofessional.
One viewer took to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their disappointment, “Fox News anchor calls our new American Pope Leo the 14th Louie the 14th. Come on, you can’t mess something that important up.”
Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was declared the new head of the Catholic Church following his election by 133 red-robed cardinals from across the globe. Pope Francis had nominated some 108 of the 133 cardinals who were entrusted with the decision to select his successor, reports the Irish Star.
He also honored his predecessor, expressing reverence for the late Pope Francis.
Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday at 88 years old after serving as the head of the Catholic Church for 12 years. Reports indicate that he succumbed to a stroke followed by irreversible heart failure.
