One Month on, Friends Share Remembrances of

It’s one month on since Turning Point USA co-founder and CEO Charlie Kirk suffered a deadly gunshot wound to the neck after an murderer fired upon him during a free speech event at Utah Valley University in Provo, UT, on Sept. 10.

Now, there’s an update on when he’ll formally obtain the county’s highest civilian honor posthumously during a White House ceremony. More on that in a minute.

My colleague streiff shared earlier on Saturday a “clarification” from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, on remarks he made during a press event this week with a top Qatari official on joint army actions between the 2 nations.

In a less formal dialog, though, Hegseth, a close good friend of Kirk’s, was requested to share his remembrances of the person, marking the 30 day-anniversary on Friday, in a video shared by the War Department’s Rapid Response X account.

“Sometimes, it just doesn’t feel real,” Hegseth said. “You see videos, things that are still playing, and go, ‘Oh, man, I can’t believe it. But isn’t Charlie the perfect example of someone who brought his faith into the public square? And did it boldly, unapologically, in a way that met people where they’re at?”

Later in the clip, he asserts that Kirk “set that example. He did it every single day. We miss him more every day, almost, when you see the void of his incredible talents, but may we live worthy of his martyrdom.” That harkens back to–10 days after the assassination–the manner the president eulogized him at the huge memorial event put on by TPUSA at a packed soccer area in Glendale, Arizona, as RedState wrote. 

Readers would possibly recall, the day after Kirk’s death, on September 11, President Trump said during remarks at the Pentagon that he had determined to bestow on him posthumously the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In case you missed it, this is the video:

President Trump Leads a ‘Nation in Mourning’ in Keynote Speech of Charlie Kirk Memorial Event

The actual reverse of a tribute lately reared its ugly head lately, showing in the pages of a major Salt Lake City newspaper, in the shape of a political cartoon that appears to depict a made-up “wanted” poster with Republican politicians bearing the same wound as Kirk. Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet alerted people to the disgraceful transfer by the Tribune on Friday:

Less than a month eliminated from Charlie’s assassination in Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune printed this cartoon entitled “The Hole-in-the-Head Gang” depicting a needed poster with elected officers from the state (with crimson around the neck?!).

This is in sharp distinction, fortunately, to the respectful honor he’s getting elsewhere.

Several shops are reporting that Pres. Trump announced on Friday that the date when Kirk will probably be honored at the WH is sort of right here:

President Donald Trump says he’ll posthumously award slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk the Medal of Freedom at a White House celebration next week.

Trump said he’ll be dashing back to the U.S. from Israel and Egypt, following a journey that’s tied to a ceasefire and hostage-release deal he he helped secure in Gaza, for the ceremony honoring Kirk.

“We’re going to have a great celebration at the White House,” Trump said Oval Office remarks. “Friend of mine, a friend of all ours,” Trump said of Kirk on Oct. 10.

Trump added that Erika, Kirk’s widow, will probably be in attendance in the East Room, next Tuesday night time. 

Tyler Bowyer from TPUSA confirmed the news, writing on X over a candid snapshot of Pres. Trump, himself, and Kirk that it is going to fall on a very particular day–Charlie Kirk’s thirty second birthday:
