MA plane crash kills husband and wife from RI. Who were Thomas, Agatha Perkins?

A husband and wife from Rhode Island were recognized as the victims in a deadly plane crash in Dartmouth on Monday, Oct. 13.

Thomas Perkins, 68, and his wife Agatha Perkins, 66, both of Middletown were recognized by Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III in the fiery crash that closed down elements of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth.

Quinn’s workplace said the 2 victims “were located with apparent injury in the fuselage and were pronounced deceased on scene.”

A driver of a silver Hyundai Sonata that was impacted by the crash was also taken the hospital with non-life-threatening accidents.

Who were Thomas Perkins and Agatha Kirby Perkins?

Thomas Perkins and his wife Agatha Kirby Perkins were longtime residents of Middletown, R.I., and were energetic in the group, volunteering for local causes and donating to the Aquidneck Island Land Trust.

Perkins and his brother in law, Jerry Kirby, were companions in Kirby Perkins Construction of Middletown, an award-winning firm that has carried out historic restoration and preservation work on historic mansions of Newport. Perkins joined the firm in 1987 as a foreman and estimator, turning into a associate a decade later.

The firm has been a member of the National Trust For Historic Preservation, The Preservation Society of Newport County, The Association for Preservation Technology, The Newport Historical Society and The American Institute of Conservators.

Agatha Perkins, identified as Aggie, was a licensed personal coach and Pilates and yoga teacher.

At roughly 8:15 a.m., a fixed-wing airplane crashed on the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The crash resulted in a fire on the ground.

Upon arrival, first responders positioned a fixed-wing single-engine Socata TBM 700 that had crashed in the woodline of 195 West before Reed Road.  Parts of the plane were positioned in the woodline, and the fuselage was positioned in the median of the freeway.

What brought about the MA plane crash?

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the trigger and method of the crash.

It’s unknown if the nor’easter, which was creating heavy rain condition and winds gusts up to 40mph, contributed to the accident.
