LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A new video shared to 6 News by a viewer shows the last moments of a mid-sized jet falling out of the sky above Bath Township Thursday evening. Moments after the video was recorded, the jet crashed into a state-owned wooded space, killing all three on board.

At the time of the crash, just after 5 p.m., FAA data shows a Hawker 800 XP left Battle Creek heading south before turning and flying north, east of Lansing, before crashing close to the intersection of Clark and Peacock Road on state land just north of Rose Lake.

The girl who recorded the jet plummeting from the sky lives at the Somerset Park Apartments, two miles from the crash scene. “I had my dog out for a walk and the plane was flying all over the place, losing control,” Carrie Sieffert told 6 News. “I almost thought it was a glider [because] it was out of control going back and forth. I saw it flying around and then when I tried to take a video is when you can see it going down. So sad!”

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash and haven’t commented on what the trigger might have been. Investigations into plane crashes can take months to full.

The jet took off from Battle Creek Executive Airport, where it was present process upkeep, Aviation Director Phil Kroll confirmed.

The upkeep was being performed by Duncan Aviation. The company president, Mike Minchow, said that two buyer pilots and their upkeep consultant have been the only people on board. The jet had a registration quantity of XA-JMR, which is out of Mexico.

“Right now, our focus is on supporting the families and friends of the crew, our team members who worked on the aircraft and developed close relationships with the aircraft’s representatives, and anyone else touched by the tragic event,” Minchow said.

Minchow added that “Duncan Aviation is actively supporting federal, state and local authorities as part of their investigation.”

The Federal Aviation Administration registry for the plane shows it was registered to Condor Air LLC out of Westlake Village, California, not far from Los Angeles. The Better Business Bureau says this company was launched in 2006.
