Talk show host Stephen Colbert, 61, closely criticized President Donald Trump‘s plan to purchase Greenland, which may enable the United States to conduct navy operations, intelligence gathering, and training.
The satirical phase on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert got here about after President Trump, 79, not too long ago proposed a draft framework with NATO that would designate parts of Greenland as US sovereign base areas. The framework, negotiated between Trump and NATO Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte, may alleviate Danish considerations that the US intends to annex the semi-autonomous territory, but the possession query is complicated.
Although the US can be permitted to conduct navy operations, intelligence gathering, and training, local development, such as uncommon earth mineral mining, would require Denmark’s approval.
During his phase, Colbert mocked the “concept of the deal” with Greenland as he began off, “Before we get into details of this framework, I have to warn you that there are none and that ‘the none’ part is very vague.”

After mocking the “concept of a deal,” the late-night host shared a screenshot of Trump’s post on his Truth Social platform. He quoted the president and repeated the phrases, “Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with Secretary General of NATO Mark Rute, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland.”
President Trump ended his post with, “This solution if consummated, will be a great one.”
Colbert went on and joked, “That’s a weird phrase. ‘If consummated?’ Is he gonna?”
The host stepped ahead, raised an eyebrow at the digicam, and requested, “Is he going to f— Greenland?”
After the viewers erupted in laughter, Colbert completed off the phase, “There you go. That’s what you get right there.”

Despite the proposed framework, which emerged as a key consideration amid Trump’s handle at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, representatives from Greenland’s 5 political events launched a collective assertion on behalf of the population, declaring that Greenlanders have no need to turn out to be half of the US as a state.
The assertion read, “We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danish, we want to be Greenlanders. The future of Greenland must be decided by Greenlanders. No other country can meddle in this.”
They continued, “We must decide our country’s future ourselves – without pressure to make a hasty decision, without procrastination, and without interference from other countries.”
French President Emmanuel Macron is another opponent of Trump’s ambitions to purchase Greenland. He has advocated for deploying the European Union’s “bazooka,” which might bar US firms from accessing the continent’s inside market.
Macron said, “It’s a deal that people jumped at, really fantastic for the USA, gets everything we wanted, including especially real national security and international security.”
