Actor Andrew Garfield is the latest superstar to converse out against author J.Okay. Rowling, arguing that watching the “Harry Potter” movies is now “controversial.”

Rowling has confronted constant criticism for her views on organic intercourse, regularly calling for the exclusion of transgender girls from ladies and girls’s sports activities.

During a radio interview, the actor best identified for taking part in “Spider-Man” didn’t point out Rowling by identify, instead referring to her as “she that shall remain nameless” and accusing her of supporting “inhumane” causes.

Garfield said in a Hits Radio interview, reported by Deadline, that he watched the movies for the first time just lately but is conscious it’s problematic to help them.

“I know it’s, like, controversial. And, like, we shouldn’t be, you know, putting money in the pocket of inhumane legislation right now through she that shall remain nameless,” Garfield said, referencing Voldemort, the “Harry Potter” villain identified as “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.”

“But the soul and the spirit of a lot of the essence of the themes of those films and the kids are so good,” he added.

Rowling has donated to marketing campaign group For Women Scotland, which legally challenged how the phrase “woman” is outlined by law in the United Kingdom. In 2025, the U.Okay. Supreme Court ruled the legal definition of a girl is based on organic intercourse.

The writer also just lately praised the International Olympic Committee’s resolution to ban transgender girls from competing in girls’s sports activities.

Garfield isn’t the first superstar to publicly converse out against Rowling. Daniel Radcliffe, who performed Harry Potter in the unique movies, and his co-star, Emma Watson, who performed Hermione Granger, have both condemned Rowling’s opinions.

Actor John Lithgow thought of strolling away from his function as Dumbledore in the HBO adaptation of the “Harry Potter” books amid backlash to Rowling’s feedback, according to The New York Times. He in the end remained in the function and appeared in a new trailer launched this week.
